Patent number: 6109218Abstract: An apparatus for regulating the coolant circuit for an internal combustion engine is equipped with a radiator and a heating system heat exchanger, a water pump, and a thermostat valve which makes possible two circuits in the warmup phase of the engine or at low engine temperatures, one circuit being provided for cooling the engine via a bypass line, and a second circuit being provided to the heating system heat exchanger via a heating system line. A differential pressure valve, regulated as a function of engine speed, is arranged in the bypass line, the bypass line being blocked, and all of the coolant being passed through the heating system line, in the warmup phase or in the phase with a low engine temperature when the speed of the engine is low; and the differential pressure valve opening and uncovering the bypass line at higher engine speeds, a quantitative distribution of the coolant occurring via the bypass line and the heating system line as a function of the design of the differential pressure valve.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Reiner Bachschmid, Clemens Bentele, Mario Erdmann, Mehmet Haseki, Peter Moser, Frederich Schulz, Jens Von Gregory

Patent number: 6106046Abstract: A vehicle, especially a minivan, having at least one rear seat located behind the front seat as viewed in the direction of travel. The seat has a seat back that can be pivoted onto a seat part. A floor pan is located in front of the rear seat in the vehicle floor for accommodating lowering of the rear seat. A folding mechanism pivots the rear seat, folded together by folding the seat back onto the seat part, into the floor pan. To achieve a limited floor pan thickness while retaining a seat height of the seat part of the rear seat that is determined by seating comfort, the folding mechanism has two front and two rear supports, each of the supports being pivotable around a pivot axis aligned transversely to the lengthwise direction of the vehicle and secured to the seat part. The supports hold the rear seat in its operating position at a predetermined seat height above the vehicle floor.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1998Date of Patent: August 22, 2000Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventor: Anton Reichel

Patent number: 6098589Abstract: Direct-injected, four-cycle internal combustion engines can be operated advantageously with charge stratification, with the fuel being injected into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke of the piston in the cylinder as a conical fuel stream. To ignite the stratified mixture cloud, an igniting spark jumps between the electrodes of a spark plug and thus contacts an ignitable mixture. In order to guarantee sufficient preparation and stable ignition and combustion of the fuel/air mixture in the long term, it is proposed that the electrodes be located outside a conical jacket of the fuel stream and that the combustion chamber roof be so designed that the conical jacket is formed during injection between the injector and the spark plug close to the wall of the combustion chamber roof. The mixture guided in the conical jacket is deflected outward in the direction of the electrodes as a result.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rolf Klenk, Klaus Roessler

Patent number: 6100511Abstract: A method and device for electrically connecting enameled wire ends with contact surfaces. The enameled wire is stripped and pressed against the contact surface. The wire is charged with at least one of an electromagnetic and an acoustical energy. The enamel layer of the wire end is destroyed with the first energy in a first step. This is accomplished by charging the region with at least one of a first electromagnetic energy and a first acoustical energy. The enamel layer of the wire end is only partially destroyed in the first step through the pressing of a region of the wire end against the contact surface with a first pressing force. The wire is permanently connected to the contact surface with a second energy in a further step. The same region of the wire is pressed against the contact surface with a second, lower pressing force in the subsequent process step. It is charged with a second energy and connected to the contact surface so as to conduct electricity.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignees: Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft, AEG Identifikationssysteme GmbHInventor: Wolfgang Kempe

Patent number: 6089018Abstract: A method for controlling a variable turbine geometry of an exhaust gas turbocharger which supercharges an internal combustion engine for driving a motor vehicle. The turbine geometry is set as a function of the operating load of the internal combustion engine between the opening position in idling and the closed position in full load operation. The turbine geometry is brought into an operating position predetermined for the prevailing load point. To improve the non-steady-state operating performance of the exhaust gas turbocharger and the internal combustion engine, in particular during long acceleration phases of the motor vehicle, the turbine geometry is guided during a switching pause for changing gear levels of the motor vehicle into a switching pause position which is independent of the operating load. In the switching pause position a reduced flow cross section of the turbine for the exhaust gas stream is set.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Roland Bischoff, Hermann Hiereth

Patent number: 6073914Abstract: A release element for a holddown device, on a solar generator, for example, with a retaining bolt which is under pretension in the direction of its lengthwise axis, releases the retaining bolt from its pretensioned position. Pretensioning force is exerted on the retaining bolt through thread located at the end of retaining bolt into a corresponding internal thread in the release device. Internal thread is located half in a housing of release device and half in an opener.
