  • Publication number: 20100086812
Abstract: In a fuel cell stack, fuel, such as often hydrogen, electrochemically reacts with an oxidant, such as ambient air, and electric energy is generated from chemical energy. During the reaction, a proton exchange membrane (PEM) separates the fuel from the oxidant during the electrochemical process. A supply system for the fuel cell stack comprises an adjustable humidifying device for humidifying a supply gas which is supplied to the fuel cell stack, as a function of a control signal; and a dehumidifying device, which is configured to dehumidify an exhaust gas that is formed from the supply gas conducted through the fuel cell stack, and to discharge the same as a dehumidified exhaust gas. A controller, which generates the control signal, is configured from a programming and/or switching point of view to generate the control signal based on the gas temperature of the dehumidified exhaust gas.

  • Publication number: 20100086818
Abstract: The invention relates to devices for operating fuel cells. According to the invention, the two functions “cooling” and “humidification” are combined in a functional unit (11, 12) to adjust the temperature of the air (1) supplied as the reaction medium and to humidify it, wherein the known hollow fiber design for membrane humidifiers having a high specific surface can preferably be used for the charge air cooler (3). These hollow fibers may also consist of a temperature-resistant membrane material (5) and give off water vapor to the inlet gas.

  • Patent number: 7691029
Abstract: A method for operation of a drive train having a drive machine and an automatic, unsynchronized gearwheel variable-speed transmission, which can be connected to the drive machine by using an automatic clutch is described. A control device carries out a selection process as a function of vehicle parameters and/or operating variables of the motor vehicle to determine whether a gear change of the unsynchronized gearwheel variable-speed transmission will be carried out with the clutch engaged or disengaged. To ensure reliable operation of the motor vehicle, a gear change is carried out with the clutch disengaged in a time interval after initial starting up of the drive train and/or after starting of the drive machine and/or when a malfunction is identified in a component in the drive train.

  • Patent number: 7686910
Abstract: A method and a device for the automated application of a self-adhesive paint film to a three-dimensionally curved bodywork part, using a robotic application tool, the paint film being held ready in the form of a multi-layered film composite ready for picking up. After picking up has taken place, a protective strip on the adhesive side is removed from the film section, which is held taut, by means of a contact piece attached to the film composite on the end side and the adhesive side of the film section is thereby exposed. The paint film section is subsequently aligned above the body part to be covered, at a small distance from it, and is progressively pressed onto the bodywork part from the spaced-apart, taut position by means of a roller or doctor moving over the paint film.

  • Publication number: 20100072678
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device (1) for producing a composite component, wherein a tubular, hollow section blank (5) is placed into the die cavity (3) of a combination tool comprising an inner high-pressure shaping tool (2) and an injection-molding tool, the combination tool is filled with a fluid in such a way that the blank (5) is wetted from the inside by the fluid, and the ends of the combination tool are sealed by two axial molding plugs (6 and 7). The filled blank (5) under pressure is then widened. The finished hollow section (22) is then plastic-coated in the same tool. In order to produce the composite component in a relatively simple manner and by a reliable process, it is suggested to empty the hollow section (22) after shaping in the sealed state at least until it is no longer dripping, wherein the pressurized fluid (19) is expelled under pressure from the hollow section (22) through at least one discharge channel formed in the axial molding plugs (6 and 7).

  • Publication number: 20100062289
Abstract: A plurality of flow field plate assemblies forms a fuel cell stack. Each flow field plate assembly has a first flow field plate positionable on an anode side of a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) of a first fuel cell, a second flow field plate positionable on a cathode side of an MEA of a second fuel cell, adjacent the first fuel cell. At least one back-feed channel is interposed between the first and second flow field plates. At least a portion of the back-feed channel or a reactant manifold opening formed by the first and second flow field plates has a geometry that forms regions of high and low capillary forces, promoting liquid migration toward regions substantially isolated from a flow of reactants, to prevent water collection and ice formation. The migrated liquid being is purged during a purge of the fuel cell stack after operation.
