Abstract: In a method of injecting fuel into the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders, wherein a main injection process and a variable number of secondary injection processes assigned to the main injection process are carried out during one working cycle of a piston, a change of the number of secondary injection processes is initiated initially only for some of the cylinders, while the original number of secondary injection processes is maintained for the other cylinders. Subsequently, the proportion of the cylinders to which the change of the number of secondary injection processes is applied is increased.

Abstract: A method for automatically detecting connectable surfaces in a technical system. The system includes bodies that can be connected to one another in pairs by applying a joining technology. A computerized design model of the system that, for each body of the system, includes at least one surface belonging to the body, and a joining technology, for example a specific bonding method, are provided. The joining technology produces a layer between in each case two bodies of the system. The surfaces or sub-areas of surfaces of the system that can be connected by the prescribed joining technology are automatically detected. For this purpose, those interspaces between in each case two surfaces of the design model that can be filled with a layer produced by the joining technology are automatically detected. Pairs of connectable finite elements are determined thereby.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of a brake disk (2) and a brake disk (2) which are characterized by the following features: several pairs of inserted bushings (8, 10) other are placed into a core box. The core (14) is closed about the bushings (8, 10) in such a way that they form an integral component of the core (14). The core (14) is inserted into a casting tool and the brake disk is cast. After the core (14) is removed, the brake disk chamber (4) and the friction ring (6) are decoupled from each other and can expand in relation to each other without shielding the brake disk (2).
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for determination of a change in volumetric efficiency for an internal combustion engine, whereby a reference volumetric efficiency is determined in advance, a first prevailing volumetric efficiency which corresponds to a sensor error is determined at a first measurement point (M1, L1) in a first rotational speed range in which a change in the flow losses in an intake tract has only a minor effect on the volumetric efficiency, a second prevailing volumetric efficiency at a second measurement point (M2, L2) in a second rotational speed range is determined, this rotational speed range being above the first rotational speed range in terms of rotational speed, the second prevailing volumetric efficiency is corrected by means of the first prevailing volumetric efficiency and the change in volumetric efficiency is determined from the reference volumetric efficiency and the corrected second prevailing volumetric efficiency.

Abstract: In a method of operating an internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection such that, in the engine startup period, a three-way catalytic converter disposed in the engine exhaust system is rapidly heated to a working temperature, in that a fuel quantity which is injected is injected in two separate injection steps with the first fuel volume being injected during the intake stroke and the second fuel volume being injected during the expansion stroke so as to form immediately before the ignition instant a rich stratified charge cloud in the region of the spark plug thereby ensuring reliable ignition of the stratified cloud while, overall, achieving a lean fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber.
