  • Patent number: 6056658
Abstract: An automotive drive unit provided with a rotatably driveable input shaft and at least one output shaft driven by the input shaft, a hydraulic clutch responsive to differences in rotation between the input and output shafts and provided with a hydrostatic displacement pump which at the occurrence of such a difference generates pressure for reducing the difference. The pressure fluid is drawn by the pump from a stationary reservoir into a suction chamber by way of a suction tube. In order to minimize the structural complexity of the drive unit and to provide a precise and quickly responsive control, the suction chamber is limited by a wall integral with the housing of the drive unit, and the suction tube is provided with a selectively controllable valve.

  • Patent number: 6043517
Abstract: A photodetector which can be operated in two wavelength ranges and is comprised of two detectors (A, B) arranged one on top of the other. A Si Schottky diode forms detector A which absorbs light in a region .lambda.<0.9 .mu.m. Longer-waved light (1 .mu.m<.lambda.<2 .mu.m) is absorbed in detector B which is comprised of an Si/SiGe pn-diode. To increase the efficiency, detector B is made with an integrated resonator. A further increase of the efficiency of the photodetector is accomplished through the mounting of a Bragg reflector on the absorbing layer of detector B.

  • Patent number: 6043567
Abstract: A new vehicle electrical system has a first lower voltage level and a second higher voltage level. The new vehicle electrical system comprises an ignition switch, a generator having an exciter circuit and a voltage controller, and a multi-chopper having several chopper stages. The voltage controller supplies energy to the exciter circuit via the ignition switch in order to adjust the first lower voltage level to a rated level of U1. The multi-chopper is connected between the battery and the generator, thereby adjusting the second higher voltage level to a rated level of U2 based on the number of chopper stages and their actuation.

  • Patent number: 6041690
Abstract: A pneumatic drive unit is provided for partially opening a vehicle body part such as a trunk lid. The pneumatic drive unit includes a working chamber which in use applies pressure to move a control member which engages a contact surface of the vehicle body part. A vent channel is provided which selectively connects the working chamber with the atmosphere as a function of the position of a movable closing element of the drive unit element and contact of the control member with the vehicle body part such that when the body part is closed after a partial opening, the drive unit is ready for another control operation.

  • Patent number: 6038527
Abstract: The proposed method for generating descriptors for the classification of texts provides a breakdown of more complex word forms by way of matching with the entirety of word forms occurring within a compilation of training texts. No morphological or linguistic knowledge base is necessary for the preferably cyclically continued breakdown, nor for the accompanying drawing up of stop word prefix and suffix lists. Simple morphological knowledge is provided by prescribing minimum requirements with respect to the form of descriptors and text sections. The method is particularly flexible and can be easily adapted to new applications. The method is also very error-tolerant and thus particularly suited for the classification of digitized texts which are produced from written texts by means of character recognition methods or from spoken texts by means of language recognition methods.

  • Patent number: 6032977
Abstract: A gas bag for a side airbag module which is inflatable by means of a filling device and which consists of at least two chambers in communication with each other. A check strip is provided as a wall between the two respective chambers. The check strip is attached by its edges to opposite surfaces of the gas bag. The ends of the strip do not extend to the periphery of the gas bag allowing the chambers to communicate with each other and thereby allowing gas to pass from one chamber to the other. When the gas bag is inflated, the check strip has a path running at least partially deviating from a straight line. The edges of the strip may also run in different directions. As a result, the gas bag may be simply subdivided into chambers of different size and shape. Consequently, the shape of the inflated gas bag is influenced.

  • Patent number: 6029792
Abstract: A friction clutch whereby the operating force characteristic is made largely independent of the wear of the clutch disk. The friction clutch is characterized in that in the engaged position of the clutch, the initial position of a clutch plate corresponding to an initial thickness of the clutch disk corresponds to a stop position of a spring in the direction of a displacement of a pressure plate against the clutch disk, from which the spring produces the superimposed elastic force when the pressure plate is displaced in the direction of clutch disk.
