Abstract: A method of processing a wafer, and particularly a cap wafer configured for mating with a device wafer in the production of a die package. Masking layers are deposited on oxide layers present on opposite surfaces of the wafer, after which the masking layers are etched to expose regions of the underlying oxide layers. Thereafter, an oxide mask is formed on the exposed regions of the oxide layers, but is prevented from forming on other regions of the oxide layers masked by the masking layers. The masking layers are then removed and the underlying regions of the oxide layers and the wafer are etched to simultaneously produce through-holes and recesses in the wafer. The oxide mask is then removed to allow mating of the cap wafer with a device wafer.

  • Patent number: 6953147
Abstract: A method for joining a tube to a member. A tube having a flange is obtained, and a member is obtained. The tube and the member are positioned with the flange contacting the member either directly or indirectly through an intervening joining material. The tube and/or the member are locally heated proximate the contact of the flange and the member without substantially heating the tube and/or the member apart from proximate the contact of the flange and the member. In one example, the local heating is welding, with or without a filler material, such as resistance welding, laser-beam welding or electron-beam welding. In another example, the local heating is brazing. In an additional example, a curable adhesive joining material is placed on the flange and/or the member, wherein the adhesive is located between and directly contacts the flange and the member, and wherein the local heating cures the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6952974
Abstract: A seat belt tension sensing assembly fixedly secured to a vehicle. The seat belt tension sensing assembly has a housing and a slide slidably received within the housing, the slide being capable of movement between a first position and a second position within the housing, the second position corresponding to a tension in the seat belt consummate with a child safety seat being secured by the seat belt, the slide having a first opening for a portion of the seat belt to pass therethrough. A sensor is operably attached to the slide and is fixedly secured to the housing. The sensor generates a signal indicative of tension on the slide as the seat belt tension increases corresponding to movement of the slide toward the second position. A compliant member providing an urging force on the slide is operably connected to the slide to urge the slide into the first position. The slide and housing interface at the second position preventing further deflection of the compliant member and further loading on the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6949907
Abstract: An apparatus including a stepper motor for actuating a moveable element of the apparatus. The maximum torque that can be generated at each step is a function of the voltage supplied to the motor. In some applications, however, torque greater than the nominal maximum may be required for brief periods. Under such conditions, the need for greater torque is sensed and a controller supplies a higher voltage to the motor, thereby increasing temporarily the output torque. When increased torque is no longer required, the voltage is reduced to nominal. The invention is useful, for example, for extending the range of a stepper motor actuator for an intake air control valve in a fuel cell assembly.

  • Patent number: 6948312
Abstract: A high-performance piston core including a first piston cylinder and a second piston cylinder, with a piston center longitudinally disposed between and magnetically coupling the first piston cylinder and the second piston cylinder. The piston center is made of high-performance magnetic material, such as Cobalt steel (CoFe), Silicon steel (SiFe), Vanadium/Cobalt steel (Permendur), alloys thereof, or the like. The high-performance magnetic materials exhibit high magnetic permeability and reduce the magnetic reluctance of flux bottlenecks. In addition, high-performance magnetic materials typically saturate at a higher flux density than the conventional magnetic materials. The first piston cylinder and the second piston cylinder can be made of conventional magnetic material, such as low-carbon steel. The first piston cylinder can include a ring disposed about an end, where the end is longitudinally attached and magnetically coupled to the piston center.
