Abstract: A coating composition is disclosed comprising an organosilane polymer, a polyester or a copolymer thereof, an amino resin crosslinking agent, and a silsesquioxane compound. Such a composition is especially useful for providing a flexible finish on non-metallic parts of automobiles and trucks. This finish has the advantage of superior etch resistance and outstanding weatherability and durability characteristics.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of 1,3-disubstituted imidazolium salts that comprises reaction of an .alpha.-dicarbonyl compound, an aldehyde, an amine and an acid is disclosed.
Abstract: The device comprises a closed chamber (1) equipped with an inlet pipe (3) for the aerated liquid, an outlet pipe (4) for the deaerated liquid, and an air evacuation pipe (5); and a rotor having a shaft extending into the chamber. The shaft carries means (7) for centrifugation of the liquid and means (8,9,10) for intensive agitation of the centrifuged liquid. The device works according to the following process: continuously, the liquid is introduced into the closed chamber and it is vigorously centrifuged there in with the aid of mechanical means (7) and simultaneously subjected to intensive agitation with the aid of second mechanical means (8,9,10).The released air gathers freely at the center of the chamber whence it is evacuated, as the deaereated liquid is evacuated through the outlet pipe.
Abstract: A novel process for the free radical polymerization of fluoromonomers in which selected hydrofluorocarbon solvents are used. The solvents have little effect on atmospheric temperature and ozone concentrations. The polymers produced are useful as thermoplastics and elastomers.

Abstract: A continuous forming method is provided here whereby long composite structural shapes such as "Z", "HAT", "L", etc. can be formed economically with relatively small equipment. First, a lay-up is made from unidirectional tape or woven cloth, then the material is heated to accommodate softening of resin, then pulled through a set of rollers, then through a matched metal die and a rapidly reciprocating punch that facilitates to form the final shape. As the material is pulled through the area of match metal die and punch, it is cooled down by the heat sink of the die and punch, or any other means, so when the part exits the die and punch area, it is sufficiently cooled down to retain the desired shape. The rapidly reciprocating punch permits the part to be pulled continuously, thereby enabling it to produce a long part very economically.
Abstract: The azeotropic and azeotrope-like compositions of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and one of 1,1-difluoroethane, 1-chloro-1,1,-difluoroethane, dimethyl ether, perfluorocyclobutane, n-butane, isobutane and 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane, and their use as refrigerants, aerosol propellants and blowing agents for polymer foams are disclosed. The azeotropic and azeotrope-like compositions of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and one of perfluorocyclobutane and 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane are also useful as fire extinguishants.

Abstract: Fiber made from PPD-T with 0.5 to 3.0% sulfur as bound sulfonic acid or sulfonate groups, is disclosed. The fiber has inherent viscosity greater than 4.5, yarn tenacity greater than 20 grams per denier, heat-aged strength retention of greater than 90%, and dipped cord strength greater than 18 gram per denier. The process for making the fiber includes PPD-T sulfonation by exposure to high concentration sulfuric acid in dope preparation under carefully controlled temperature and time.
Abstract: Process for beneficiating titanium bearing ore selected from the group consisting essentially of titaniferous ores, leucoxene, rutile, perovskite, and sphene comprising:(a) contacting said ore with an aqueous solution of a mineral acid having a concentration of about 3-30 percent by weight said contacting taking place at a temperature of about 160.degree.-300.degree. C., until the desired amount of impurities are solubilized and a leachate is formed,(b) removing the leachate from the product of step (a).
Abstract: An alternate S and Z twist plied yarn made from individual singles yarns. The apparatus twists the singles yarns as they move in a path through the process, twisting the individual yarns in either an S or Z direction. The bonding of the ply-twisted yarns at a node while applying twist forms a bond characterized by numerous individual spaced bond sites between individual filaments that are distributed throughout the bond.
Abstract: A motor-operated tool is provided for tool sockets revolving about an axis, in particular for drills or spanners. The tool comprises a tool head containing a drive spindle. The drive spindle comprises a driving opening for a drive shank of the tool socket and a plurality of ball elements for engaging a part of the drive shank to lock it in the driving opening. The ball elements preferably are adapted to lock the drive shank in the driving opening automatically and to be released by a suitable mechanism. The tool socket is designed as a drill chuck and is provided with key elements for actuating the mechanism.
Abstract: A process for reducing the molecular weight of polytetramethylene ether glycol without significant conversion of polytetramethylene ether glycol to tetrahydrofuran monomer is disclosed. The process involves a two-step procedure. The first step comprises reacting polytetramethylene ether glycol with a perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acid to form a perfluoroalkyl ester of polytetramethylene ether glycol. That ester is, in the second step, converted back to polytetramethylene ether glycol of reduced molecular weight by hydrolysis or alcoholysis.
Abstract: A process for improving the method by which a powder such as a dye is added to a gelatino silver halide element is described. This process involves encapsulating the powder within a gelatin capsule. This process avoids cross-contamination and dusting when powder is added to solvent and also reduces the use of extra solvent in the manufacture of the element.
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the production of N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, also known as glyphosate. The process comprises hydrogenating a mixture containing glyoxylic acid and aminomethylphosphonic acid, the mixture having been enzymatically prepared in situ by the reaction of glycolic acid and oxygen in an aqueous solution containing aminomethylphosphonic acid and the enzymes glycolate oxidase and catalase.

Abstract: A class of organosilanes of the general formula ##STR1## wherein Ar is a divalent aromatic radical; R.sub.f is a defined fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl ether group; X is methyl, R.sub.f Ar as defined above, a halogen other than fluorine, or an alkoxy group; and each one of Y and Z is a halogen other than fluorine or an alkoxy group. These organosilanes are very useful as precursors to polysiloxane coupling agents for bonding fluoropolymers to glass fibers which can withstand the usual fluoropolymer melt-processing temperatures without decomposition.
