  • Patent number: 5031261
Abstract: A laminated foam mattress overlay for preventing the formation of decubitus ulcers in bedridden individuals. The mattress overlay includes an upper layer of polyurethane foam laminated to a base layer of a different polyurethane foam. The upper lay features a polyurethane foam which is of a higher density than the base layer. The upper layer also includes a higher initial softness ratio than the base layer. The base layer has higher 5, 25 and 65% indentation load deflection values (ILD) than the corresponding ILD values for the upper layer which is attributable to the firmer support provided by the foundation or base layer. The base layer is preferably thicker than the upper layer which can include a checkerboard-like upper surface. The combination of layers provides for a reduction in pressure points in the areas of greatest concern such as the hip and heel.

  • Patent number: 5031268
Abstract: An improved corner guard assembly is provided for use in attaching suspension cords to the edgefold surface of a bonded nonwoven polyolefin film-fibril banner. The corner guard assembly comprises a pair of isosceles triangular plates, namely a front plate and a back plate. The two plates clamp a corner of the banner and are secured to each other by projections on the back plate which engage corresponding receptacles in the front plate. The projections have a generally tubular configuration in order to receive a detachably mounted locking peg for prohibiting relative movement of the projections in the receptacles. The improvement comprises mounting the locking pegs on the front plate so that they extend partly into the cavity defined by the receptacles. During use, the pegs can be driven into the projections without danger of bending or breaking.

  • Patent number: 5032834
Abstract: A display and communication system includes display panels located at several locations which are separated from each other. Each panel has a matrix of plug-in modules and each module has lights and a switch device which can be operated to change which light on that module is illuminated, thereby indicating the status of a physical location, such as a table in a restaurant. The plug-in modules can be arranged on all of the panels to resemble the arrangement of the physical locations which are being represented. When the switch is operated to change the illumination of a light in a module, this change is communicated to all other panels, causing the counterpart modules in the other panels to exhibit the same illumination scheme.

  • Patent number: 5031550
Abstract: A seedling planter utilizes support wheels located on a main frame near the rear of the planter. The support wheels are pivotable relative to the frame, thereby allowing the force exerted by a set of intermediate packing wheels to be varied. The seedling planter was a novel planting assembly which incorporates two primary structural members; a first planting assembly piece or link which is connected to the frame, and a planting arm which is pivotally connected to the first piece. The first piece is movable to vary the height of the pivot axis about which the planting arm rotates. The planting assembly also includes a soil height level detection subsystem to automatically control downward extension of the first planting assembly piece. The planting arm is thus positioned at a desired predetermined height above the soil as it is rotated into the ground to provide consistent planting depth. A cam-operated seedling holder clamps the seedlings along the rear edge of the planting arm.
