Abstract: A driver alerting device includes a transceiver adapted for mounting at the rearward end of a vehicle for directing its wave output rearwardly of the vehicle. Return wave signals for many objects within the transceiver range are picked up and supplied to the transceiver by an antenna. Any resultant doppler shift signal is amplified for driving an audio alarm adapted for placement within the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The circuit is adapted for electrical connection to the back-up light circuit of the vehicle for activation only when the vehicle transmission is engaged in reverse gear.

Abstract: Articles and process for wavelength conversion are disclosed which use a series of aligned sections of optical materials which are suitably balanced over the series with regard to the section length and the section .DELTA.k (i.e. the difference between the sum of the propagation constants for the incident waves and the sum of the propagation constants for the waves generated). The sections are selected such that the sum for the series of the product of the length of each section with the .DELTA.k is equal to about zero, and the length of each section is less than its coherence length. Embodiments are disclosed wherein at least one of the optical materials is optically nonlinear and/or wherein a layer of nonlinear optical material is provided adjacent to the series of sections.
Abstract: Novel compositions of homopolymers and copolymers containing an olefinic polymerizable end group wherein the monomeric units comprise methacrylate, acrylate, acrylic acid, styrene, vinyl esters, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl halides, vinylidene halides, substituted butadienes, ethylene-sulfonic acid derivatives, acrylamide derivatives, methacrylamide derivatives, and other monomers, and mixtures thereof are disclosed.
Abstract: Frequency control in a miniature receiver is effected by a synthesizer that is operated briefly to provide a tuning voltage to a voltage controlled local oscillator. A capacitor is shunted across the output of the synthesizer and is charged to the level of the tuning voltage. After the capacitor is charged, the synthesizer is deenergized and the diminishing voltage provided to the oscillator by the discharging capacitor is correspondingly supplemented by an AFC voltage that tracks drift of the received signal in the IF passband. The deenergizing of the synthesizer eliminates synthesizer noise and reduces the receiver's power consumption.
Abstract: Tris(isonitrile)copper(I) complex salts with anions selected from BF.sub.4, PF.sub.6, ClO.sub.4, I, Br, Cl and CF.sub.3 COO are useful in preparing radionuclide complexes rapidly at room temperature. Preferred isonitrile ligands are ether isonitriles. The tris(isonitrile)copper(I) adducts enable technetium complexes, such as those of Tc99m, to be prepared easily just prior to their use as imaging agents.

Abstract: An improved spandex polymer composition provides fibers or films of the composition with increased heat set efficiency and greater discoloration resistance. The composition contains zinc oxide and a polyhydroxy additive selected from certain sugars, reduced sugars and/or polyhydroxy urethanes formed from these sugars or reduced sugars and an organic diisocyanate.
Abstract: An improvement in the process for the continuous copolymerization of ethylene with certain polar comonomers having reactive double bonds, wherein a single phase is maintained in the reactor by means of methanol introduced concurrently with the reactants, whereby reactor fouling is significantly reduced or eliminated.
Abstract: A method for producing para-aramid pulp includes forming a liquid, actively-polymerizing solution and subjecting the solution to orienting flow which produces an optically anisotropic liquid solution with polymer chains oriented in the direction of the flow. When the solution has a viscosity sufficient to maintain the orientation of the polymer chains, the solution is incubated until it gels. The gel is cut transversely at intervals and para-aramid pulp is isolated from the gel. Para-aramid pulp produced by the process can be used similarly to pulp produced from spun fiber.

Abstract: A volumetric meter for liquids and/or gases, in the radial cavities of the rotor of which there are housed rolling rollers which, by undergoing mutual repulsion by the action of magnets embedded in them, are urged radially into a sealed state against the inner surface of the cylindrical chamber, which is provided in positions straddling said opposite maximum and minimum clearance zones with two portions having constant curvatures with their centre on the rotor axis and extending through an angle equal to the angular pitch between two successive rollers, i.e. to 360.degree. divided by the number of rollers used. Further inlet and outlet ports cooperating with the rear space in the housing cavities are also provided, as are fine adjustment means.

Abstract: Disclosed is an elongate, nonwoven flexible sheet structure and a method for its manufacture. The sheet structure consists essentially of a commingled mixture of about 45 to about 70% by weight short fibers of aromatic polyamide and about 30 to about 55% by weight fibrids of poly(meta-phenylene isophthalamide). The sheet structure has an interior thickness remote from the edges of between about 75 and about 150 microns with a thickened area along and adjacent each of the side edges having a maximum thickness which is at least about 5% greater in average thickness than the interior thickness of the sheet along and adjacent the thickened areas.
Abstract: This invention relates to a peel-apart photosensitive element comprising a strippable coversheet, a photorelease layer, a photohardenable layer, an elastomeric layer, and a support, which is useful in a variety of image reproduction processes.
Abstract: An ad insertion system and method transmit spot messages during intervals in a broadcast transmission and provide immediate access to stored spot messages, in any sequential order, with a single video source. Custom spot messages can be created by superimposing graphics over selected video signals and simultaneously transmitting those signals with appropriate audio signals.
