Abstract: A bioaffinity separation method is provided along with a solid affinity support utilized in that method. Additionally, immobilized enzyme systems are provided for use as enzyme electrode systems. The support is based on an inert perfluorocarbon polymer carrier with ligands or binders attached to its surface through a highly fluorinated isocyanate anchor group. Methods for preparing such supports and their use in capturing target molecules from samples and in analytical applications are also provided.

Abstract: An electrical contact terminal having a mounting section designed for press-fit insertion into a hole of a substrate such as a circuit board. The mounting section comprises an oblong base portion to which is secured at least one separately formed flexible fin. While the base portion and fin are both electrically conductive, they are not formed integrally from the same material and may be formed of two different materials. The fin or fins are secured to opposite sides of said base portion and are secured to said base portion at one or both ends. At one end, the fins are narrowed in width and thickness and secured to the base portion by means of electrical or laser welding. The fins may be mechanically clamped to the base portion at the other end. The terminals may be carried by a carrier strip and the fins may be preferably formed by punching a portion of said carrier strip and bending it around said base portion of the terminal to form parallel fins extending on opposite lateral sides of the base portion.
Abstract: The use of anionic polysilicate microgels with an organic polymer to flocculate pulp and filler fines, such that water removal is easier and fines retention is greater.
Abstract: A blend consisting essentially of a major portion of an amorphous polyamide and a minor portion of an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer exhibits gas barrier properties which are less dependent on humidity than are those of either of the component polymers. Films and laminated structures which incorporate the material of these blends are suitable for use as packaging materials.
Abstract: Dispersion-process-produced, non-melt-processible, particulate, core-shell, tetrafluoroethylene copolymer comprising recurring units of tetrafluoroethylene and modifying recurring units of at least one ethylenically unsaturated comonomer that is copolymerizable with the tetrafluoroethylene, the number of recurring units of comonomer in the shell being sufficient to enable the copolymer to compound uniformly with an elastomer or plastic without forming visible agglomerates, and blends thereof with elastomeric and plastic resins.
Abstract: A process for the removal of manganese catalyst from the bis glycol ester of terephthalic acid, by adding terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid, and separating the precipitate.
Abstract: A member of a bioaffinity binding pair is immobilized on a plastic surface by coating the surface with poly(ethyleneimine) derivatized with a hydrophobic group, and covalently coupling the member to the coated surface. The immobilized member may be used in immunoassays or bioaffinity separations. The derivatized poly(ethyleneimine) is preferably tosyl poly(ethyleneimine).
Abstract: A method for preparing selected peptide substrates for detecting the activity of virus-specified proteases is provided. Specific tetrapeptide substrates are disclosed which are conjugates of protease-cleavable indicator groups and peptide sequences resembling picornavirus protease cleavage recognition sites.
Abstract: An aldehyde in a mixture containing hemiacetals and hydrates of the aldehyde is purified by treating the mixture with an effective amount of microwave radiation to decompose the hemiacetals and hydrates. Liberated water and/or alcohol is immediately removed with an adsorbent.

Abstract: Estriol and estradiol glycidyl ethers, immunogenic conjugates thereof and processes for their preparation are provided. The immunogenic conjugates are useful for eliciting and purifying antibodies and in performing immunoassays for estriol and estradiol.
Abstract: A number of drill guides are provided for quickly setting up to drill construction holes, door handle holes, hinge holes, and drawer front panel attachment holes for construction of cabinets without excessive jigging setup time. Several tools are described for quickly squaring up cabinet panels and clamping them together while glue dries.
Abstract: Uniformity of properties of spun polyamide filaments is improved by treating flake polyamide with successive nitrogen gas streams, the first having a variable temperature and water content, and the second being dry but having a variable flow rate. Viscosity of the molten polyamide from a melter for the flake is determined by measuring differential pressure across a transfer pipe. The viscosity measurement is used by automatic control apparatus to control the flow rate of the second stream, and the moisture content of a make-up stream added to the first stream. The flow rate of the make-up stream is controlled to maintain the second stream within limits, and the temperature of the first stream is controlled to maintain the flow rates of the make-up and second streams within limits.

Abstract: Coating composition containing hydroxy functional polyester graft copolymers are provided. The copolymer is crosslinkable by hydroxy-reactive crosslinking agent and, in particular, is suitable for use in thermosetting coating compositions adapted to form a flexible cured coating over a variety of substrates, such as metal and plastic. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight between about 1,300 and about 15,000, has a hydroxy number between about 30 and about 300, and is the reaction product of carbon-carbon double bond-reactive monoethylenically unsaturated monomer with hydroxy functional carbon-carbon double bond-bearing branched polyester macromonomer. The macromonomer is the reaction product of (i) isocyanato monomer having the formula: ##STR1## with (ii) hydroxy functional polyester reactant containing 0-1- urethane linkages per molecule.

Abstract: A repair method for repairing electrical interconnect between an electrical bus bar and an electrically conductive ply of a heatable laminate. The method uses the steps of filling a syringe with an electrically conductive material, inserting the needle of the syringe into the laminate parallel to the conductive ply and along the surface thereof until the needle reaches the interconnect and then operating the syringe to inject an amount of the material into an area about the conductive ply.
Abstract: A ball seal having an elongated, flexible metal strap for providing locking engagement with a ball-shaped housing. A locking platform, having two frangibly joined leaves, is mounted in the housing for receiving the ends of the metal strap. A pair of locking tabs are located on one leaf and a pair of locking rings are mounted on the locking platform. The seal is placed in use by passing the strap through a structure to be sealed and then sliding the ends into the locking platform to effect locking engagement between the strap ends, and the locking tabs and rings. If the strap is forced from the housing, the leaf having the locking tabs thereon will be torn from the other leaf at the frangible joint, thereby destroying the locking platform beyond reasonable repair.
