  • Patent number: 4946902
Abstract: Melt-processible copolymers of at least two halogenated comonomers from a defined class, especially perhalogenated comonomers, and particularly perfluorinated comonomers, of improved thermal stability are obtained by first contacting the copolymers with a stabilizing agent selected from bases (ammonia or amines) having a boiling point at normal pressure of at most 130.degree. C. and tertiary alcohols having up to 8 carbon atoms, to form an intermediate, drying the intermediate at about 70.degree.-150.degree. C., and fluorinating the intermediate at a temperature between 20.degree. C. and the lowest temperature at which the copolymer exhibits a solid state transition, then removing excess fluorine and by-products and recovering the stabilized copolymer. Such stabilized copolymers are useful for a variety of technically important applications, including as clading for optical fibers, substrates for electronic components, thermal laminates, pipes, tubes, and fittings, etc.

  • Patent number: 4945145
Abstract: A curable silane resin, and a process for making same, having at least one of two units selected from the group consisting of a prepolymer (C) and a prepolymer (F); the prepolymer (C) having the formula (I): ##STR1## and the prepolymer (F) having the formula (III): ##STR2##The curable resin of our invention has excellent flexibility, solvent resistance and adhesion to organic materials. Furthermore our process for preparing the resin is simpler, more easily reproducible, and results in less unwanted by-prodducts than earlier processes for preparing similar silane resins.

  • Patent number: 4944953
Abstract: A method of purifying hydrolysed protein compositions by contact with crystalline zeolite agglomerates is provided. A reduction in the concentration of chlorohydrins, measured as 1,3-dichloropropen-2-ol, in hydrolysed protein compositions can be obtained by contacting the hydrolysed protein composition with a crystallin zeolite agglomerate, e.g., as pellets, beads or granules of crystalline zeolite. The method allows removal of chlorohydrins without affecting the organoleptic qualities of the hydrolysed protein.

  • Patent number: 4944313
Abstract: A single-use annular mouthpiece for use with a diagnostic instrument such as an endoscope is provided. The mouthpiece protects the endoscope from damage and enhances patient comfort while giving a visible indication of any prior use. The mouthpiece includes a first relatively rigid portion having an annular main body shaped and dimensioned to be held in a patient's mouth and to provide clearance for an instrument through its central opening. The rigid portion includes an annular lip extending radially from the main body at one end and an annular flange extending radially from the main body at another end. The flange is shaped and dimensioned to overlie a patient's lips. The mouthpiece includes a second deformable compressible annular portion mounted around the annular main body of the first portion. The second portion is permanently deformable when subject to a patient'bite. The second portion is sized and shaped to substantially encircle the main body portion and to fit between the lip and the flange.

  • Patent number: 4944221
Abstract: The invention relates to an articulated lever press consisting of a press stand (1.1) and a frame-shaped press slide (2.1), the slide (2.1) possessing a hydraulic cylinder drive (2.12) which is arranged on it and is connected to the multi-articulated support (2.7) guided in the center of the press in the slide (2.1). At least two connecting rods (2.8) are movably arranged on the multi-articulated support, the other ends of the connecting rods each engaging one of the two articulated levers (2.10) or (2.11) which are mounted on the slide (2.1) and on the press frame (1.1) so that their height can be adjusted. The object is essentially to keep the working range of the slide (2.1) adjustable, irrespective of the slide travel and while maintaining slide guidance. It is proposed that the press stand (1.1) be a twin-stand frame partially closed even at the front end. The working range of the slide (2.1) in the stand (1.1) is supported and adjusted by synchronously driven shafts (2.

  • Patent number: 4943402
Abstract: Removing chloroprene dimers from polychloroprene by feeding to a screw extruder a polychloroprene latex and coagulating the latex in the extruder, feeding the coagulated latex to a dewatering zone and discharging the coagulated polychloroprene through a flow restriction which heats and pressurizes the polychloroprene to an area of reduced pressure to form a porous crumb. Also, the flow restriction applies back pressure sufficient that the water in the polychloroprene is forced out of a vent port. The polychloroprene crumb discharged from the extruder is heated to strip chloroprene dimer therefrom.
