Abstract: Certain N-[(heterocyclic)aminocarbonyl]thiazolesulfonamides, such as N-[(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-4-thiazolesulfonamide, are useful as herbicides and/or plant growth regulants.
Abstract: A direct conversion FM receiver that includes AC coupling and automatic gain control employs an offset frequency at the first local oscillator. The offset frequency prevents the frequency spectrum occupied by the signal modulation from being affected by AC coupling. The offset frequency is chosen so that it translates the frequency spectrum of the received signal outside the DC notch created in the spectrum by the AC coupling. To conserve battery supplied power, an error amplifier coupled between the output of the receiver and the first local oscillator maintains the offset frequency after it has been established by a frequency synthesizer, which is then turned off.

Abstract: Solid photopolymerizable compositions and photosensitive elements are provided that are useful in preparing optical elements, and especially holograms. The composition contains a polymeric binder, a liquid ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and a photoinitiator system. Typical compositions have a refractive index modulation of at least 0.005 when measured per the specified test.
Abstract: An integral three-dimensional object is formed from a photohardenable liquid composition containing radiation deflecting matter whereby a difference in an index of refraction increases by more than 0.01 after photohardening.
Abstract: Method to regulate the pull in continuous rolling trains, in which the value of a reference speed (V) is monitored in conditions where a bar is substantially free (not under drawing action) while said bar is being rolled, in which the measurement of the value of the reference speed (V) when the bar is substantially free of pull is obtained by means of variation of the speed (V) of the motor of the involved stand by an increase (x1) of the speed (V), by a return thereafter to the reference value of the speed (V) and by a reduction (x2) of the speed, followed by a final return to the reference speed (V) or realigned speed (V'), while monitoring the formation of a microloop on the rolled product. Rolling train for carrying out the above method, comprising for each stand an assembly to sequence a change of speed connected to a speed cascade control assembly and to an incremental assembly.

Abstract: A recreational vehicle has a retaining member extending along the side of a vehicle to retain a cover for an awning. The cover may be formed from a plurality of metallic slats pivotable relative to one another to define a housing for the awning fabric in one pivotable relationship of the slats and to define an extension of the awning fabric in a second pivotable relationship of the slats. The slat closest to the recreational vehicle in the second pivotable relationship of the cover may also have a retaining portion. A first member is provided with detaining portions at its opposite ends to be detained by the retaining member on the recreational vehicle and the retaining portion on the slat closest to the recreational vehicle. The first member may have a coupling portion at an intermediate position between its opposite ends. This coupling portion co-operates with a sealing member to hold the sealing member on the first member. The sealing member may be made from a resilient material such as a vinyl.
Abstract: Process for the production of 2,4,5,6-tetrachloroisophtalonitrile, with formula (I), having a crystallographic structure suited for producing fungicide compositions remaining stable throughout time and having a high biological activity, wherein a thermal and/or mechanical treatment is carried out on the non-suited crystallographic structure, both by gradually decreasing the temperature during the de-sublimation phase, subsequent to industrial synthesis, and by supplying thermal energy--in static or dynamic conditions--and/or mechanical energy to the industrial technical product having a nonsuited crystallographic structure eventually during the phase of preparation or of micronization of said product.

Abstract: The device provides a fastener which somewhat resembles a slide fastener but which can be made at least substantially fluid-resistant. It comprises a first component (1), of flexible and resilient material, having an engagement formation having a longitudinal groove (6) and longitudinally spaced mating formations (10), and a second component (2), of similar material, having a rib (16) and longitudinally spaced mating formations (19). The components can be progressively engaged by the introduction of the rib into the groove and the interengagement of the mating formations. The latter prevent significant relative longitudinal movement between the components. Each component can be made by extrusion of a blank followed by the formation of the mating formations by a rotary die (123). The components can be engaged and disengaged by means of a slide (52) like that used in a conventional slide fastener.
Abstract: An improved solder paste composition suitable for screen or stencil printing with a capability for low ionic contamination after soldering comprising a metal or metal alloy powder, a carrier, and stannous fluoride.
Abstract: The preparation of branched unsaturated dinitriles as the major products (along the branched saturated dinitriles as the by-products) is achieved by electrolytic coupling of unsaturated mono nitriles in acetonitrile. All dinitrile products have an odd number of carbons between the two nitrile groups. The starting aliphatic unsaturated nitriles include 2-pentenenitrile, 3-pentenenitrile, 2-butenenitrile and 3-methyl-2-butenenitrile.

Abstract: An improved wall fastener for hollow walls, the fastener having two spreadable anchoring blades designed to spread behind the wall following insertion of a screw thereinbetween. The fastener is made of thin sheet metal which has been hardened through a heat treating process, such as quenching. Complementary engaging means on the blades are used to hold the blades together during the heat treatment and to prevent the separation thereof until the screw insertion.
