Abstract: A radio system and method for monitoring and locating objects, including individuals, animals and articles, both locally and on a nationwide scale use monitoring base stations communicating by ID code with portable transponders which are secured to the objects to be monitored. The transponder responds to signals transmitted by the base, the latter indicating by an alarm the absence of a timely appropriate response from the transponder. The base is capable of performing and participating in homing techniques to locate a lost transponder. A list of the IDs of all transponders reported missing is distributed from a central source by nationwide communication to a network of radio stations, each station broadcasting the list in an encoded signal in repetitive sequence along with regular programming. Cruising vehicles of public safety departments operating locally nationwide are equipped with automatic monitors for receiving specially coded messages including IDs from transponders within their areas.
Abstract: The subject matter of the invention is an apparatus for tending a stoma comprising a base plate made of a hypoallergic material or of an adhesive film and a self sustaining but flexible ring to which an adhesive bag for taking up the excreta is attached. The connection between the base plate and the ring is a flexible cylindrical connector piece of little height and a diameter which compared with the base plate is as large as possible. The three-dimensional connector piece extends normal to the base plate and may have also the form of a steep truncated cone.

The hole is surrounded by an adhesive pad of skin-compatible water-resistant material secured to the external surface of the front wall surrounding the hole. The pad is generally heart-shaped so that when in position on the wearer the concave portion of the heart-shaped pad is towards the front of the wearer.
Abstract: Rotor body assemblies for use in a cold temperature cylinder to produce frozen confectionary made from fruit juices or similar liquids. Each assembly comprises a shaft on which are mounted hard plastic blades. The blades may be force fitted within a slot in the shaft, the slot being diagonally oriented from top to bottom with respect to the vertical orientation of each shaft surface. The blades may be formed as one piece with the shaft. Also mounted on the shaft are a conically-shaped top liquid distributor, also of hard food-grade plastic and a bottom ejector of the same material.
Abstract: Antiviral activity is exhibited by compounds having the formula ##STR1## its pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently hydrogen, --PO.sub.3 H.sub.2 or ##STR2## and R.sub.1 is either a purine, pyrimidine or an analog thereof.
Abstract: A photosensitive composition comprising:(a) a compound of the formula ##STR1## (b) an ethylenically unsaturated compound capable of free radical initiated addition polymerization;(c) a polymeric binder; and(d) a free radical generating system activatable by actinic radiation which comprises a hexaarylbiimidazole and a chain transfer agent.A single step process for forming a light-stable hologram using this photosensitive composition is also disclosed.
Abstract: Oriented polymeric monofilaments having a diameter of at least about 60 mils and excellent uniformity in roundness, and a process for their preparation by extrusion of the monofilament in at least two stages.
Abstract: A portable colorimeter for characterizing the optical properties of a colored surface and in particular a colored surface containing metallic or pearlescent particles, which employs three multiangular spectrophotometric measurements to derive color constants for the surface. The colorimeter is a compact integrated unit housing irradiation, detection, control, analysis and display means and employs three illumination angles, preferably -30.degree., 0.degree., and 65.degree., and one detection angle, preferably 45.degree., all measured from the sample normal. The method includes determining the tristimulus values of the color of the sample surface from low resolution spectral reflectance data preferably using twelve detector elements.
Abstract: Recombinant plasmids containing the larvicidal delta-endotoxin gene were constructed by inserting HindIII fragments of the Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis 72-75 Md plasmid into the Escherichia coli vector pUC12. Two recombinants producing a 27-kdal toxin (pIP173 and pIP174) were indentified by screening clones in an E. coli in vitro transcription-translation system. Both recombinants comprised pUC12 and common 9.7 kb HindIII fragment of the B. thuringiensis plasmid. The 27,340 Da polypeptide synthesized in vito from pIP174 transformed into E. coli JM101 and from B. subtilis 168 and spoOJ87 containing the 1.2 kb TaqI fragment from pIP173 was lethal to mosquito larvae.
Abstract: A portable, automatic serving device for table tennis is provided which includes a robot server and ball capture net. The robot includes a serving head which is mounted for rotation with respect to the body along a plurality of axes. The head is provided with balls from a passageway in the robot operatively connected between the head and the base of the robot. A collapsible net is provided for capturing balls returned by a player. The robot is positioned within and cooperates with the net so that return balls are fed automatically to the head. The robot is operated by three motors, which may be controlled individually to serve sequentially a plurality of balls to a player for practice or for sport. The robot construction provides for a variety of ball delivery techniques, all of which are controlled simply during operation.
