  • Patent number: 4762344
Abstract: A well pipe connection wherein the ends of the pipes have complementary sealing surfaces and are joined together by means of an internally threaded tubular connector that engages with corresponding threads on each of the pipe ends. One of the pipe ends has threads of a pitch that is greater than the pitch of the threads on the other pipe end, and the connector threads have corresponding thread pitches. The disclosed arrangement permits the connection to be assembled to the point short of relative sliding movement between the complementary sealing surfaces on the pipe ends and final tightening is accomplished by restraining the respective pipes from relative rotation while rotating the connector to draw the two pipe ends together into compressive sealing engagement without relative sliding in order to prevent galling of the sealing surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4762038
Abstract: A pipe machining apparatus having a tool carrier rotatable about a frame mounted externally of a pipe, with the frame being formed of two semiannular sections which are releasably held together by connection devices including coacting pin and latch structures which are effectively positioned by a member operable from the side of the frame. The tool carrier mounts at least one tool head having a tool slide for a tool movable radially of the pipe. The tool slide is movable by rotation of a feed screw which is rotated in a tool slide advancing direction by a rack and pinion structure including a rack adjustably mounted on a feed plunger which coacts with a tool advance cam on the frame. The rack is also mounted for pivotal movement to permit manual rotation of the feed screw in a tool slide retracting direction, which pivoting results from cogging of the pinion gears relative to the rack gears.

  • Patent number: 4763342
Abstract: The digital phase-locked loop circuit extracts the clock signal from a serial flow of coded data by operating so as to determine the phase of the received signal and comparing this phase with that of a locally-generated signal. The error signal obtained from the comparison is digitally filtered and used to correct the phase of local signal. The error with respect to the signal extracted from a prior data stream is stored and used to effect corrections even in the absence of the data flow at the input or in presence of long zero sequences.

  • Patent number: 4762414
Abstract: A static interferometric ellipsometer, wherein a source (3) generates a coherent light-beam with two monochromatic radiations at slightly different frequencies. A first photodetector (6) generates a first beat between the two radiations, to be used as reference. A second photodetector (9) generates a second beat between the two radiations, after they have been polarized in perpendicular planes and separated so that one of them is reflected onto the photodetector (9) by the sample under test (1,2). A measuring and computing system (11) determines the optical properties of said sample starting from the intensity of the second beat and from the relative phase between the two beats.

  • Patent number: 4760946
Abstract: In a device for the guiding of a moving web (1) that has on its inner side a contact-sensitive surface (3), the web (1) separates two zones (13, 14) in the guide region from one another. The outer zone (14) is formed by a housing (7) connected with a reduced pressure source (P). The inner zone (13) is connected with the atmosphere. To seal the housing (7) against the atmosphere, sealing elements (16, 17) extending across the width of the web at the beginning and end zones of the guide region interact with the outer side of the web (1). As a result of the pressure difference, a gap is formed between the guide surfaces (8, 9) of a support (6) and the web, so that the contact-sensitive surface is not supported in the guide region.
