  • Publication number: 20060262576
Abstract: An AC to DC converter comprises a bi-directional switch array converter which converts a three phase AC supply at 50/60 Hz to a high frequency single phase drive for a series resonant parallel loaded tank. The tank is transformer coupled to a rectifier and filter to give a high voltage isolated DC supply to drive a load. The switching of the converter is based on control of the resonant tank to operate as close to a desired tank reference voltage as possible.

  • Publication number: 20060260403
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for evaluating, during a welding process, a welded joint as it is forming between at least two parts of a joint using at least one ultrasonic transmitter sound penetrating the region of the forming welded joint with ultrasonic waves and at least one ultrasonic receiver, which registers the changes in sound transmittance of the ultrasonic waves penetrating the region of the forming welded joint in order to evaluate the welded joint. The invention is distinguished by sound being transmitted with longitudinal (l) and transverse(t) ultrasonic waves into the region of the welded joint, the time-dependent changes in sound transmittance Dl(t), Dt(t) of the longitudinal ultrasonic waves (l) and the transverse ultrasonic waves (t) being registered separately, and using the ratio of Dl(t) to Dt(t), the time point ts at which a molten mass forms in the region of the welded joint being determined and serving as a basis for evaluating the welded joint.

  • Publication number: 20060262060
Abstract: An electro-optic display is driven using a plurality of different drive schemes. The waveforms of the drive schemes are chosen such that the absolute value of the net impulse applied to a pixel for all homogeneous and heterogeneous irreducible loops divided by the number of transitions in the loop is less than about 20 percent of the characteristic impulse (i.e., the average of the absolute values of the impulses required to drive a pixel between its two extreme optical states).

  • Publication number: 20060261740
Abstract: An electron beam tube device such as an inductive output tube of the integral cavity type has a RF window which re-enters the interaction space within the cavity thereby defining a space that is within the interaction cavity but is outside the vacuum. An output coupler in the form of an output coupling loop protrudes into this space and thus couples with the electromagnetic field within the interaction space, whilst remaining outside the vacuum envelope. This allows the coupling loop to be adjusted without any additional seal arrangement between the coupling loop and walls of the output cavity.

  • Patent number: 7137649
Abstract: The method and device of this invention immobilizes a person in a secure, upright restraint system in a police vehicle. It can be easily and safely applied by public safety officers including police or other law enforcement personnel and medical personnel to secure a person against undesired movement while maintaining them in an upright, sitting position which leaves the diaphragm free for natural, unrestrained breathing movement. The asphyxia-preventing restraining device comprises an ALR/ELR retractor. The ALR/ELR retractor comprises a shoulder harness having a pair of seat belt buckles, which significantly reduces the possibilities of injuries to police officers.

  • Patent number: 7137734
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for measuring quantities of heat while simultaneously measuring the evaporation kinetics and/or condensation kinetics of the most minute amounts of liquid in order to determine thermodynamic parameters. The aim of the invention is to determine low thermal outputs, which are absorbed or released by the sample, as well as small differences between thermal outputs with regard to a reference measurement of the same magnitude. To this end, a most minute amount of liquid is located inside a measuring chamber having a constant temperature and air humidity. At least one thermal sensor is provided for repeatedly measuring the thermal radiation emitted from the most minute amount of liquid. A measuring means serves to determine the time-dependent change in the most minute amount of liquid. A computer is assigned to the measuring chamber in order to register, display, evaluate and/or subsequently process the measured values.

  • Patent number: 7138790
Abstract: A control device for controlling a charging switch in a switching regulator with an inductance, a filter capacitance and a diode comprises a clock generator for providing an operating clock, an output voltage detection means and an inductance current detection means, as well as a comparator for comparing the detection signals generated by the two detection means. The charging switch is switched on by an event in the clock and switched off when the comparator determines a predetermined relation between the two detection signals. The voltage detection signal is formed to have an inverted curve in relation to the detected output voltage, such that when the output voltage to be detected increases the detection signal falls and vice versa. Thus, a stable and simple regulation of the output voltage across a current locked loop is possible, where no filtering of an actual value has to be performed. Thus, a stable current locked loop with simple structure is obtained in a wide range.

  • Patent number: 7138483
Abstract: The energy levels (HOMO, LUMO) of the conjugated polymer are tuned independently, so that an energy match on both sides of the device can be accomplished while keeping the emission color in the blue region. Such polymers can be formed by polymerization of a mixture of monomers. The mixture of the monomers contains at least one monomer having an electron-deficient group sandwiched by two aromatic hydrocarbon groups (“Monomer (I)”) and at least one hole transporting (“HT”) monomer. The mixture of monomers may also contain a solubility enhancement (“SE”) monomer and/or a Branching Monomer.
