Abstract: Polyethylene blow molding resins having improved processing properties such as reduction of flare swell and die swell are obtained by treating resins having particular molecular weight characteristics with low levels of free radical initiators. The free radical initiators are used at such low levels that the final physical properties of the resins are substantially unchanged, yet processing is greatly improved.
Abstract: In producing CO.sub.2 from subterranean reservoirs at conditions apt to cause both aqueous and CO.sub.2 -rich liquid phases to flow in pipes conveying the fluid, the formation of hydrates is prevented by adding a specified type of inorganic electrolyte hydrate inhibitor in proportions capable of maintaining an effective concentration within the aqueous liquid phase.
Abstract: A method is provided for preparing hydrocarbon soluble magnesium siloxide supports comprising contacting such supports with sufficient aluminum alkoxide or organic ethers to render the supports hydrocarbon soluble. Thereafter the supports are contacted with a transition metal compound and halogenated to obtain polymerization catalysts.
Abstract: Apparatus for drying particles in an air flow, the air inlet of which opens freely into a rotating drum. Air is removed from the particles through one or more perforated hollow bodies immersed in the mass of rotating particles, as near as possible to the external periphery of the drum. Preferably, the hollow bodies are two in number and are arranged on either side of blades provided on the rotating drum. Each hollow body is of elliptical shape in cross section. Preferably, it is also provided to adjust the angular position of the hollow body or bodies relative to a vertical plane through the drum axis.
Abstract: Isocyanates produced by vapor-phase catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of corresponding N-substituted formamides are readily separated from by-product water by contacting the reaction mixture, in the vapor phase, with a cold brine mixture comprising water and about 25% to about 35% by weight of a salt or salts selected from the group consisting of NaCl, CaCl.sub.2, and MgCl.sub.2, the brine mixture having been maintained at a temperature between about 0.degree. C. and its freezing point prior to contact with the reaction mixture containing isocyanates.
Abstract: An electrical jumper is disclosed as having a terminal member which is retained in a housing by a latch. The latch cooperates with rails in the housing on which the terminal member is supported, leaving clearance for the terminal member to ride under and snap onto the latch. The jumper can be provided on single or multiple units, including a bus bar configuration.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibitor compositions comprising a mixture of (1) a volatile amine selected from the group consisting of cyclohexylamine, isopropylamine and morpholine and (2) a tertiary C.sub.12-14 alkylammonium carboxylate selected from the group consisting of a C.sub.12-14 alkylammonium benzoate and a tertiary C.sub.12-14 alkylammonium-N-oleoyl sarcosinate. Such compositions are useful in inhibiting corrosion on the interior surfaces of tin-plated aerosol cans containing water-based aerosol formulations.
Abstract: An improved safety latch suitable for use on grab as well as other types of lifting hooks. A hollow, generally rectangular, annular latch member surrounds the heel of the hook with the side walls of the latch member providing an L-shape configuration. The latch member is mounted on the heel of the hook for rotation about an axis extending transversely of the hook at the end of the foot of the L-shape configuration. The foot of the L-shape configuration has a length greater than the width of the throat of the hook and resilient means are provided for urging the latch member to rotate about the mounting axis to cause the leg of the L-shape configuration to extend across the throat of the hook whereby the end of the latch member at the foot of the L-shape configuration is adjacent the tip of the hook when the other end of the latch member is in contact with the exterior surface of the basket portion of the hook.
Abstract: Improved process for producing a carbon fiber having high tensile strength and high modulus involves oxidation of acrylonitrile fiber which has been treated with selected ammonium salts, from the group of ammonium sulfamate, ammonium bromide and ammonium iodide.
Abstract: Photosensitive coating composition consisting essentially of an ethylenic unsaturated compound, a photoinitiator or photoinitiator system, an organic polymeric binder, discrete, substantialy nonswellable, nonagglomerating, crosslinked beads, 0.1 to 4.0 .mu.m in average diameter size, at least 90% of the beads by population below 6.0 .mu.m, as defined and a solvent for the binder. The crosslinked beads can be present in positive-working systems. Preferred beads are trimethylolpropane triacrylate. The coating composition can be dried quickly into the form of a film which is useful as a dry film photoresist.
Abstract: A method for the recovery of plastic material such as polyester from scrap material such as photographic film having a polyester base and at least one layer of a macromolecular organic polymer. The process includes mixing small pieces of the scrap material in a solution having a scrap solids concentration level of at least 25 percent by volume. The mixture is subjected to conditions of high shear to remove and comminute the polymer layer to particles of a maximum size particle dimension substantially smaller than the minimum size in the longest dimension of the scrap pieces. The polymer particles are then separated from the remaining pure polyester.
Abstract: An epoxyester linear block oligomer made with n-1 moles fatty acid units terminated with carboxylic acid groups and n moles of epoxy oligomer is particularly suited for chip-resistant paints made with a low pigment volume concentration.

Abstract: A train of incoming data words, specifically digitized video samples arrayed in frames of Y lines of X pixels each which have already undergone a 2-dimensional spatial transformation, is scrambled by being divided into Z sequences (frames) whose data words are temporarily written in respective cells of Z.sup.2 storage units of a memory of dynamic-RAM Type. The Z.sup.2 storage units, each divided into Z sections, are read out in cyclic-succession--at a rate of one cell per unit--and each cell is reloaded immediately after being vacated. Reading and writing occurs for one set of Z sequences in a first addressing mode, conforming to the order of arrival of the data words in the incoming train, and for the next set in a second addressing mode involving the grouping of homologous data words of respective sequences into successive series of Z data words each.
