Abstract: A portable blade sharpening device having a vise to grip the blade, a guide bracket attached to the vise and a tool having a guide rod cooperating with the guide bracket to bevel the blade.
Abstract: Improved vanadium/phosphorus oxide catalyst for the vapor phase oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride, and the use of said catalyst to prepare maleic anhydride, said catalyst containing the nonpost-deposited promoter comprising silicon and at least one of indium, antimony and tantalum.
Abstract: Improved liquid-barrier properties are provided to spunlaced fabrics of woodpulp and synthetic organic fibers by employing closely spaced jets in a hydraulic entanglement treatment of the fibers. Additional improvement in barrier properties is provided by a finishing step which employs multiple passes under low pressure, closely spaced jets.
Abstract: An additive for alkyd resin coating compositions which is a blend of an isocyanate isocyanurate, dibutyltindilaurate and an organic solvent. Coating compositions containing this additive are used for coating automobiles and trucks and have good initial gloss and hardness and good gloss retention on weathering.
Abstract: A storage stable Werner complex of stearato, CR.sup.+3, Cl and OH groups in the approximate molar ratio of 1:2:4:1 dissolved in from 15-30 weight percent pentanol and 47.7-32.7 weight percent isopropanol is disclosed. The solution contains from 5-7 weight percent chromium.
Abstract: The "livering" or gelling of corn steep liquor or liquid products containing corn steep liquor is prevented or reversed by the addition of an effective amount of a calcium complexing agent, preferably at a pH of less than about 3.8.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a hoist to be used in combination with an apparatus for filtering molten metal. The hoist of the present invention is used both to position the filtering vessel, and to back-flushing metal through the filter element. The present invention also relates to the method of back-flushing. Back-flushing serves to dislodge particulate and thereby clean the filter element. When the filtering vessel is submerged in a molten metal bath back flushing serves to aid the exchange of the molten metal interior to the filtering vessel with the molten metal exterior to the filtering vessel, and in so doing aids in minimizing the temperature difference between molten metal interior and exterior to the molten metal filtering vessel. Periodic back-flushing significantly extends the life of the molten metal filtering apparatus.
Abstract: Vinyl ether monomers derived from diesters of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5 and n is 0 to 10; copolymers of the vinyl ether monomers with one or more selected perfluorinated monoolefins; articles of manufacture made from the copolymers; process for making the diesters; process for using copolymer membranes in a chlor-alkali cell.
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of 1,3,5-triaminotrinitrobenzene having a large crystal size by aminating 1,3,5-trichlorotrinitrobenzene with an agent at atmospheric pressure at a temperature of at least about 160.degree. C. with an antioxidant added to the reaction mixture.

Abstract: Pigmentary grade quinacridone pigments are prepared from crude quinacridone by dry milling the crude quinacridone to form aggregated low crystallinity material followed by milling the low crystallinity in water using steel shot as the milling elements. In a preferred aspect of the invention from 0.5 to 5 wt percent, based on quinacridone, of phthalimidomethylquinacridone is present in the water milling step. In another preferred aspect of the invention the water milled pigment is extracted with a dilute hot acid in the presence of naphthenic acids and then dried.
Abstract: Chlorination of hydroquinone by reacting sulfuryl chloride with a slurry or solution of hydroquinone in glacial acetic acid can yield a mixture containing a major proportion of monochlorohydroquinone.
Abstract: A device that protects the inner surface of pipes from rust is disclosed. This device is especially useful for pipes provided with threading and a thread guard at their threaded ends to form an airtight seal. The device comprises a holder that can be inserted in the pipes on which a number of receptacles are attached at intervals. The receptacles are filled with a drying agent or dessicant and are made of a moisture permeable material. A moisture indicator may be placed in the base of the thread guard.

Abstract: Nylon/polyester bicomponent filaments of dumbbell cross-sectional shape having a jagged interfacial surface, the polyester being an antimony-free copolyester having 5-(sodium sulfo) isophthalate units. The surface of the bicomponent filament being at least 75% of one of the polymeric components.
Abstract: A prehension unit suitable for use as a finger in a manipulator hand has a supporting body, a contact element carried by the supporting body through a resilient material and defining with the body a closed space. Optical sensors cooperate with a locally light reflecting surface of the contact element. Each sensor comprises an optical fiber for transmitting light from a remote transducer to an end portion terminating in the supporting body in front of the contact element surface and an optical fiber for collecting the light reflected by the surface and conveying it to a remote light sensitive transducer. The movements of the locally reflecting surface, due to axial, radial and/or angular movements of the contact element which results in a change of the amount of reflected light collected by the second fiber may be detected. The manipulator apparatus may be provided with motors for restoring the unit to a position for which no force is exerted by an object to be seized on the contact element.
