Abstract: In preparation for reclaiming and recycling the material of construction of a plastic bottle, the friction-fitting base, if any, and bottle cap can be separated from the bottle body by cutting through the cap and base. The cap and base are cut in a plane in which the bottle's longitudinal axis lies. Alternatively, two cuts are made in parallel planes that are also parallel to the bottle's longitudinal axis.
Abstract: The invention relates to a variable-configuration head for seizing and handling objects, which head comprises a frame from which are suspended supports for seizing members through the medium of three links swivelled both to the supports and to the frame, the supports being geometrically equivalent to two identical articulated parallelograms having opposite angles at one common vertex, so as to allow the supports to be joined together transversely or longitudinally to modify the configuration of the group of objects held by the seizing members.

Abstract: A motional bridge circuit for generating feedback signals proportional to the vibration of an ultrasonic transducer is modified by means of an active filter in the feedback circuit which is coupled to a starting circuit that raises the Q of the active filter when a signal is not present in the feedback loop to change the active filter from a mode suppressant to a self-oscillating state.
Abstract: An improved catalytic process for making para-xylene from toluene and a methylating agent employing the described crystalline silica as catalyst, said catalyst optionally promoted by one or more compounds of arsenic, phosphorus, magnesium, boron, antimony and amorphous silica. Preferred promoters are boron compounds, antimony compounds, and amorphous silica.
Abstract: A slide coating apparatus wherein the angle between the slide surface and a horizontal datum plane lies within a range from 35.degree. to 50.degree. and wherein the takeoff angle defined between a tangent to the coating roll and the slide surface lies within a range from 85.degree. to 100.degree..

Abstract: A pitching machine and control system which will pitch any baseball pitch desired on command with all parameters of each pitch chosen before the pitch of the ball. The system measures and counteracts the effects of the prevailing weather upon the ball then delivers the ball to the chosen point in the target zone. The parameters of the pitch are: orientation of the seams of the ball with respect to the access of spin, orientation of the access of spin with respect to the direction of travel, location of the release point with respect to the center of the machine (including both height and width), velocity of the ball, magnitude of the spin of the ball, and initial direction of the ball. The target parameters which are also selected before pitch are the target location with respect to the release point of the ball. Internal settings of the machine are adjusted to satisfy the pitch, and target parameters and the prevailing weather. Pitch and target parameters can be stored and played back to control the system.
Abstract: Coating compositions of poly(arylene sulfide) and polytetrafluoroethylene have enhanced adhesion to substrates when they include barium or calcium sulfate, especially for coil coating use on cookware.
Abstract: A process, apparatus and system for making a sterile connection between two thermoplastic resin tubes is disclosed. The process comprises forming a continuous molten seal simultaneously between an end of a hot, multi-ended, hollow needle and a wall of each of said tubes, thereby providing fluid communication, and cooling said seals and needle. As the thermoplastic resin cools a sterile weld is formed.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for preparing a compound having the formula ##STR1## which comprises coupling a compound having the formula ##STR2## or a salt thereof, with a compound having the formula ##STR3## to obtain a compound having the formula ##STR4## reacting that compound with 2-aminooxy-2-methylpropanoic acid, or a salt thereof, to obtain a compound having the formula ##STR5## and, if R is an amino protecting group, deprotecting that compound to yield the desired product; whereinR is hydrogen or an amino protecting group;R.sub.1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl;M.sup..sym. is an inorganic cation or a substituted ammonium ion; andM.sub.1.sup..sym. is hydrogen, an inorganic cation or a substituted ammonium ion.

Abstract: An apparatus for the production of maxillar models through cephalometric analysis with auxiliary graduated occlusal plane by simplifying the construction of maxillar models and its anatomic relation, obtaining greater exactness in the correction of the dentomaxillofacial anomalies and reducing the time of confection of the models. The apparatus is formed of a single base having two towers set with condylar elements that support an upper section that holds the condylar movables. The base and the upper section support both the mandibular and the palatal plates with their platforms. The occlusal plate is placed between these two plates resting over two leading rods. An articulated ruler with a level is used for the transference of cephalometric angles, planes and points.

Abstract: A process is provided for the removal from paper pulp of impurities, the pulp being contained in a pulping machine. Some of the pulp is periodically transferred into an enclosed chamber annexed to the pulping machine, the chamber having a volume which is small compared to the volume of the pulping machine. The pulp in the chamber is stirred and separated by a rotor, and fibre suspension is returned to the pulping machine, dilution water being introduced into this chamber. The chamber is emptied and impurities thereafter discharged.
Abstract: N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)arylsulfonamides in which at least one of the acyclic nitrogens thereof is substituted by lower alkyl, or sometimes in the case of aminocarbonyl nitrogen, by methoxy; e.g. N-[N-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-N-methylaminocarbonyl]-2-chloroben zenesulfonamide or N-[N-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-N-methylaminocarbonyl]-2-nitrobenz enesulfonamide; are useful for the regulation of plant growth and as general and selective herbicides.

Abstract: An improved apparatus for recovering silver from a silver-containing solution. The device includes a container having influent and effluent passageways and a filler element composed of a metal above silver in the electromotive force series. The filler is disposed about an elongated core having an aperture in the side thereof. The filler may be formed of steel wire wound in the fashion of a spool about the core. One or more baffles may be situated within the filler to extend the length of the path taken by fluid flowing from the influent passageway through the filler to the core and then through the effluent passageway. Solution flowing through the filler reacts therewith so that silver is deposited within the container. An opening may be provided in the top of the container to permit viewing of the contents to determine whether the capacity of the container has been exhausted or whether the device is operating properly.
