Abstract: An apparatus and process for automatically and rapidly making a paint having the color values of a standard paint; a computer is used which is connected to and controls a multiplicity of metering pumps that are each individually connected to a supply of components used to make the paint such as binder solution, solvent and colorants; the components are accurately metered into a mixing vessel and mixed, paint is circulated through a recycle loop attached to the vessel, the loop contains a cell having a viewing window through which the paint is pumped, a colorimeter views the cell and determines the color values of the wet paint and feeds these values back to the computer which compares the values to values of the standard paint and calculates the amount of colorant to be added and signals the metering pumps to add colorant, the process is repeated until the paint is brought within the tolerance values of the standard paint.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions of nalbuphine and sulindac have been found to exhibit unexpectedly enhanced analgesic activity by applying an analysis model which considers data characterizing the analgesic effect of both the pure components as well as the fixed dose ratio combinations. This synergism enables the use of lower doses of either or both drugs with a concomitant reduction in risk of possible side effects.
Abstract: An improved process for making a composite yarn of staple fibers commingled with bulked continuous filaments comprises passing a yarn of crimped continuous filaments while under tension between nip rolls which advance the yarn into a splaying zone where the filaments are permitted to contract and splay of their own accord into an open three-dimensional filament network into which airborne staple fibers are projected for commingling with the filaments after which the open network is collapsed and the composite yarn is withdrawn at a slightly lower speed than that at which the nip rolls advance the feed yarn.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lubricant for use in the drawing and ironing of black plate steel during the manufacture of enclosed containers such as cans. In particular, the lubricant is applied to that portion of the black plate steel which ultimately becomes the outside surface of the can body. The lubricant comprises an aqueous solution of an active component, such as a major portion of molybdenum disulfide, together with minor amounts of waxes and other materials. In performing the method of the present invention, a lubricant system is employed. The lubricant system comprises a dual lubricant coating. The first, or outside, coating is applied to that portion of the black plate steel which ultimately becomes the outside surface of the can body. The outside coating is applied, such as by spraying or gravure or offset printing, at a rate of about 25 to about 200 milligrams per squre foot of steel surface. This coating is dried, as through the use of a heat source, such as infrared heat or hot air.
Abstract: Process for hydrogenolysis of polyols to ethylene glycol in nonaqueous solvents yields high conversion to ethylene glycol in presence of at least about 10 mol percent of a strong base at a temperature of 235.degree. C. to 315.degree. C.
Abstract: Incoming and outgoing lines on opposite sides of a PCM coupling network, each carrying a recurrent frame with a multiplicity of 8-bit channels which are to be individually tested, have branches extending to an input-side data extractor and an output-side data extractor of substantially identical construction co-operating with a control device such as a microprocessor serving to compare the data extracted in a given time slot from an incoming line with those extracted in a corresponding time slot from an outgoing line coupled thereto. Each extractor, realized in integrated circuitry, comprises a multiplexer for selecting one of the associated lines, a register storing the identity of the line to be selected, and presettable counters stepped by a time base synchronized with the PCM system for enabling the loading of an output register by the multiplexer at the instant when a byte of the desired channel appears on the chosen line.

Abstract: Breakerless ignition system of the inductive type is used to provide ignition pulses for an internal combustion engine which substantially duplicates the timing performance of a breaker-point magneto. The system utilizes a transistor for making and breaking the current flow in the primary coil of the ignition transformer. Switching of the transistor is controlled by a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) and gating of the SCR is controlled by a time-delay network which includes a capacitor, resistor and a transistor switching means in circuit with the control electrode of the SCR. A second transistor and capacitor network controls the rate of rise of current to the time-delay network as a function of engine speed.
Abstract: A furniture drawer comprises side and rear walls made of profile material laid out in its upper and lower extremities with folds for fitting in and sliding the drawer in relationship to the furniture, and, in at least one of its extremities, with a cutaway at right angles, for fixing the front or rear walls of same.
Abstract: A drier cabinet for drying fire-hoses of other similar hoses comprises an elongated horizontal receptacle (10), in which a plurality of hoses (19) may be placed side by side in extended positions to undergo drying in said receptacle. In order to permit a continuous operation of the drier cabinet, the receptacle (10) is divided into two parallel drying chambers (11), extending in side by side relationship along the length of the receptacle. At their upper ends, the drying chambers (11) have longitudinally extending openings which are individually closable by means of appurtenant covers (13). The two covers (13) are rigidly mounted on a common rotatable shaft (14), located between them and connected to a single driving motor (16). Additionally, the two covers (13) act as counterweights for each other to reduce the required driving power.

Abstract: A rack for elongated rod-like members including a plurality of spaced substantially parallel frames mounted on a base, with each frame consisting of columns and beams for providing a plurality of openings, spaced rollers extending between columns of each frame behind said beams for supporting the rod-like members, with the beams having inclined surfaces for guiding the rod-like members into associated openings, and the beams having upper and lower edge portions so that if a bundle of rod-like members tilts during loading, the upper edge of the beam on the frame at the entry portion will bite into the underside of the bundle and the lower edge of another beam at a higher elevation within the rack will bite into the upper side of the bundle to hold the bundle in position.
Abstract: An automatic well skimmer for removal of floating contaminates and oil and gasoline seepage from water wells. A cylindrical well bailer is lowered and raised by means of a motor driven cable hoist programmed to lower the bailer in small increments after detecting the liquid level and to lift the bailer before it is completely filled with liquid. When lifted to the surface the liquid is dumped from the bailer and the bailer is returned to the well. The timing of the controls can be varied to permit skimming at rates comparable to the seepage of hydrocarbons into the well and the bailer can be stored below ground in the well between cycles to prevent freezing of the unloading mechanism.
Abstract: Particular amorphous thermoplastic polyamide copolymers can be combined with semicrystalline thermoplastic polyamides to produce molding resins having a wide variety of applications depending on the relative amounts of the amorphous copolymer and the crystallizable polyamide present.

Abstract: In conventional dry-spinning processes forming a hollow bundle of filaments, a heated inert gas is introduced to evaporate spinning solvent from the filaments, and a vacuum may be applied in the center of the bundle near the face of the spinneret to assist in drawing the heated inert gas through the filament bundle. A Coanda-flow entrainment device in the center of the bundle adjacent the spinneret face uses a small inlet gas flow directed along a Coanda surface. The device entrains gas, pulling it through the filament bundle and then directing it downward. This entrained flow can supplement or supplant the vacuum-induced flow through the filaments.
