  • Patent number: 4388644
Abstract: A system for monitoring the operation of a multichannel receiver includes a channel monitor coupled to the sync separator of the receiver for collecting and transmitting channel information to a central collector station. The collector station selectively responds to one of a plurality of channel monitors to record, in sequential order, channel information. Each of the channel monitors is similar and includes a synchronizing pulse generator triggered by the vertical synchronizing pulse from a receiver to generate a match recognize pulse when a frequency coupled to the receiver from the monitor and the channel frequency have a preestablished relationship. To generate the match recognize pulse a counter provides signals to a tuning matrix that controls a frequency synthesizer or plurality of oscillators for generating the frequency coupled to the receiver for the match evaluation. Also, the counter activates a data encoder that provides channel information to the collector station.

  • Patent number: 4386593
Abstract: A fuel-air injection control system is provided for internal combustion engines using gasoline as a fuel. The system includes a vacuum pump which is connected to an airtight fuel supply tank containing a liquid gasoline such that operation of the vacuum pump causes a portion of the liquid gasoline to be continuously vaporized. The vaporized but unheated gasoline is passed through a filter where unwanted contaminants are removed and is delivered to the intake ducts of the internal combustion engine. Heated air is also supplied to these intake ducts and the vaporized gasoline combines with heated combustion air therein for subsequent ignition in the combustion chambers. The flow of heated combustion air is controlled by the operator to control the speed of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4387271
Abstract: Telephone lines extending between a central office and associated subscriber stations are provided at opposite ends with mutually complementary modems and with couplers by which code signals from subscriber-operated address selectors can be sent to a common data network containing specialized information or to associated data-retrieval units. The latter are connected in parallel to a bus originating at a data bank from which data bits grouped into pages are continuously emitted at high speed. Each retrieval unit comprises two shift registers, one of them being loadable from the bus by the incoming high-speed bits to store a complete page together with an accompanying address code while the other receives a selected address code from the associated subscriber. A comparator, upon detecting an identity between the coded addresses stored in the two registers, stops the loading of the first shift register and commands its readout over the subscriber line at a slow rate compatible with that line's bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 4385800
Abstract: In order to couple an input end of an optical fiber to a light source designed to illuminate same with message signals, the light source--such as an LED--is mounted on a dielectric disk where it is surrounded by a flat ring confronting another ring with a stepped inner profile from which a cylindrical sleeve projects on the side opposite that disk. A capillary tube, closely fitting into the axial bore of the sleeve, is fitted around an extremity of the fiber stripped of its protective sheath so as to extend close to the source when the two rings are substantially coaxially juxtaposed; with the source energized, the light emitted at the opposite fiber end is measured to determine the correct alignment position in which the two rings are cemented to each other.

  • Patent number: 4385958
Abstract: A label cassette is described in which labels releasably adhered to a support strip are stored in a cassette. The cassette is generally rectangular with one corner formed at approximately a 45.degree. angle. A reflective surface is placed on the angular corner to permit a light beam to be reflected from the cassette through holes in the support strip between each label to control the advance of the support strip into the label printer. With this arrangement the proper positioning of the label cassette as well as that of the support strip are simultaneously detected.
