  • Patent number: 4381507
Abstract: An apparatus and method for obtaining an electrical signal indicative of the degree of extension of a fluid cylinder, the signal being transmitted to a remote location for use in providing a remote readout of the cylinder position. The displacement of the piston is translated into a rotational movement of a threaded rod coupled to the piston. The rod is, in turn, coupled to a potentiometer or other device that provides an electrical signal indicative of the cylinder extension.

  • Patent number: 4380737
Abstract: A fast slew rate automatic gain control circuit (10) includes a variable gain amplifier (14) which is responsive to a gain control signal and an amplitude detector (18) which produces an amplitude signal corresponding to the amplitude of the received signal transmitted through amplifier (14). The amplitude signal is provided to the input node of a loop filter (24) and to the inputs of threshold detectors (30, 32). Positive and negative slew threshold circuits (34, 38) provide threshold signals respectively for the threshold detector circuits (30, 32). When the amplitude signal is within the range of the threshold signals the loop filter produces the gain control as the function of the amplitude signal. When the amplitude signal is less than the positive slew threshold signal the threshold detector (32) produces a drive signal which is provided to the loop filter (24) and causes the generation of the gain control signal to have an accelerated positive slew rate which increases the gain.

  • Patent number: 4380586
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for photometrically analyzing the hydrogen sulfide concentration in a stream containing at least a first predetermined concentration of bonded hydrogen sulfide-amines and ultraviolet radiation-absorbing impurities is characterized by isolating a first, reference, sample of the stream and removing the hydrogen sulfide from the reference sample until a second, lower, predetermined concentration remains. Thereafter, the first, reference, sample is photometrically analyzed and a reference signal representative of the ultraviolet radiation-absorbing characteristics of the first, reference, sample is produced. The reference signal is thereafter used in the photometric analysis of a second sample to produce a signal representative only of the hydrogen sulfide concentration in the second sample.

  • Patent number: 4380482
Abstract: Water-bearing explosives comprising oxidizer, fuel, and sensitizer components in a thickened or gelled continuous aqueous phase are stabilized against the degradation of their thickened or gelled structure by the incorporation therein of iodide and/or iodate ions. Preferably, iodide ion is introduced by dissolving ammonium iodide or an alkali metal iodide in an aqueous liquor or sol containing the oxidizer component. • Patent number: 4380257
Abstract: Samples of body fluids such as blood, urine, etc. are passed for analysis through separating columns to extract the desired component from the raw sample. Unwanted ingredients of the sample flow through the resin bed to a refuse cup. The retained desired component is later released from the resin bed by a solvent and collected in a recovery cup. Fluids passing through the resin bed are selectively passed to the refuse cup or recovery cup by flexing a disklike support for the resin bed. Preferably the support is flexed by applying a differential gas pressure across the support. An apparatus for implementing this method includes in a flexible disk, adapted to hold separating columns, suspended across an opening of a vacuum chamber. The outside edges of the disk form a seal for the chamber. The separating columns are in vertical alignment with waste receptacles disposed in a second disk positioned below the first disk.
