Abstract: A stream of digital symbols with three or more distinct amplitude levels, organized in a recurrent frame of N symbol periods, carries supplemental information in the form of a binary word of k bits per frame, with k substantially less than the probable minimum number of modulable waveforms, i.e. symbols of the lowest or the highest normal level. At a transmitting end of a signal path, the binary word is superimposed upon a group of k consecutive modulable waveforms at the beginning of each outgoing frame, with bits of logical value "1" indicated by a supermodulation of corresponding modulable waveforms to raise or lower their amplitudes to an extra-high or an extra-low level; the first and the last bit of this word have invariably the value "1". At a receiving end, a cyclic counter CL.sub.4 stepped by extracted clock pulses establishes a recurrent incoming frame of normally N symbol periods while a dead-end counter CC.sub.

Abstract: A method of increasing the yield of a high purity polyamic acid that is the reaction product of a diamino compound and a polycarboxylic acid dianhydride, comprises:1. purifying an inert solvent by distillation or ion-exchange;2. purifying the dianhydride by sublimation;3. purifying the diamino compound by a slurry process that involves the repeated washing of the diamino compound first with deionized water and then methanol; and4. reacting the purified diamino compound with the purified dianhydride in the purified inert solvent.
Abstract: A rotating seal for a continuous flow centrifuge is disclosed. The rotating seal is mounted at the center of mass of the rotor to reduce vibration of the seal. The nonrotating portion of the rotating seal is maintained in contact with the rotating portion of the seal by a three point spring secured to a housing which is resiliently mounted to the chamber which encloses the rotor. In this manner, the nonrotating disk is able to follow the reduced amplitude vibrations of the rotating disk with reduced leakage.
Abstract: Photolysis of azetidin-2-one derivatives having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is acyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or .alpha.-methoxy, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkyl, 2,2,2-trichloroethyl, trimethylsilyl, diphenylmethyl, benzyl, 4-methoxybenzyl, or 4-nitrobenzyl, and R.sub.4 is an aromatic heterocyclic group, yields 3-methylene cephalosporins.
Abstract: Phytate-containing proteinaceous materials are treated with trivalent aluminum to alter the physical, chemical, metabolic, functional and nutritional values of the protein. Protein derived from phytate-containing seed materials treated with trivalent aluminum possess improved solvent solubility, protease digestability, reduced thermophiles and trypsin inhibition reduction, low viscosity, trace mineral bioavailability, etc. without requiring phytate or phytic acid removal. The aluminum treatment may be conducted at numerous protein manufacturing stages with a wide variety of different materials. Phytate-containing proteins may be effectively extracted at acid pH levels in the presence of trivalent aluminum without sacrificing recoverable protein yields.

Abstract: A dual-flow band screen includes a carrying frame and a screening band which is mounted so as to move in an endless loop on the frame. A support wall is associated with the carrying frame, which support wall overall extends perpendicularly to generatrices of its screening band, while possessing an opening opposite the latter, and which support wall laterally forms engagement lips by means of which it is capable of engaging with the guides in a sluice.

Abstract: A myocardial imaging agent is provided having the structure ##STR1## wherein Q, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 and A are as defined herein. A method for scanning the heart, liver or kidneys employing the above agent is also provided.
Abstract: An Al-Mg alloy is mixed with a Ni-Sb alloy or Al, in powder form, to form a thick-film metallizing paste useful for making low resistance electrically conductive contacts to a silicon solar cell coated with Si.sub.3 N.sub.4.
Abstract: Ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer film containing 35 to 50 percent copolymerized vinyl acetate by weight is irradiated with 0.5 to 16 megarads of high energy radiation, contacted with an alcoholic solution of a titanate or silane coupling agent, and subsequently contacted with an alcoholic finely divided mineral particulate slurry. The resulting film is elastomeric, heat sealable, transparent upon relaxation after being stretched and free of surface tack.
Abstract: An alkylanthraquinone working solution as used in the manufacture of hydrogen peroxide, in the oxidized form is cooled to from 20.degree. to 40.degree. C. and fed to a slurry type catalytic hydrogenator maintained at from 38.degree. to 60.degree. C., and 10 to 100 psig. From 10 to 90% of the catalyst free hydrogenated working solution is cooled to from 20.degree. to 40.degree. C. and recycled to the hydrogenator.
Abstract: Copolyether glycols are modified so that they contain 1-25%, by weight of .beta.,.beta.'-dihydroxyalkyl sulfide moieties. These modified copolyether glycols have enhanced resistance to degradation by heat and oxygen. The invention also relates to a method of making the modified copolyether glycols, to their use as stabilizers against the degradation of the polyether chains, and to polyurethanes made with them.
Abstract: Electro-magnetic decoy-launcher ammunition has an external housing, which houses an impeller in its lower section and encloses a charge of electro-magnetic decoy material which can be ejected by a thrust device when the impeller is excited. The charge remains in its tubular transfer container, and the thrust device is mounted within the transfer container and comprises a semi-rigid disc actuated by a piston, fitted with a peripheral projection, which defines with the disc an annular housing for a split ring for taking up play and a felt washer ensuring that the device is fireproof.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is an imino acid or ester and R.sub.1 is hydrogen, ##STR2## are useful hypotensive agents due to their angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition activity.
Abstract: Propagation of electrical trees and water trees in electrical insulation made of ethylene homopolymers or copolymers with an unsaturated monomer is inhibited by the addition to the insulating composition of an organic carboxylic ester having at least one aromatic ring and at least three carboxylic ester groups, the ester being liquid at the operating temperature of the electrical equipment in which the insulation is used. The main utility of the inhibitors of this invention is in the primary insulation for power transmission cables, especially those used in high voltage applications.
