Abstract: In the catalytic preparation of methylamines from methanol and ammonia using an aluminosilicate catalyst, the mono-, di- and trimethylamine content of the product mixture can be varied from the equilibrium mixture ordinarily produced by using an amorphous aluminosilicate catalyst containing varying amounts of sodium, potassium, lithium, barium or strontium atoms as a result of treating an amorphous aluminosilicate with a corresponding metal hydroxide.

Abstract: A peak detector circuit (10) is disclosed wherein an input signal is full-wave rectified by a circuit (14) and the rectified signal is provided simultaneously to peak detect, hold and dump circuits (18), (20). Each of the peak detect, hold and dump circuits is discharged at the start of periodic intervals with a phase offset between the intervals for the two circuits. The peak signals are discharged at essentially the start of the interval followed by rapid charging of the peak signal to the peak amplitude of the rectified input signal. The later portions of each of the intervals of the peak signals produced by the peak detect, hold and dump circuits (18) and (20) are transmitted alternately through a multiplexer circuit (24). The resulting output signal is transmitted through a high impedance buffer amplifier (30) to an output terminal (32) of peak detector circuit (10).

Abstract: Polypropylene ether glycol is modified so that it contains 1-25%, by weight of .beta.,.beta.'-dihydroxyalkyl sulfide moieties. These modified polypropylene ether glycols have enhanced resistance to degradation by heat and oxygen. The invention also relates to a method of making the modified PPG's, to their use as stabilizers against the degradation of the polyether chain, and to polyurethanes made with them.
Abstract: A direct process for converting cellulose into alkali cellulose for subsequent production of a filterable viscose by combining particles of cellulose with the largest 1% of the particles having a minimum size Y of less than 600 microns and the bulk density X of the particles being greater than 0.2 g/cm.sup.3 such that the relationship between X and Y is defined by the equation Y-760X.ltoreq.50; and 125 g to 240 g of 20-40% aqueous NaOH for each 100 g of cellulose for at least 4 minutes at 15.degree.-60.degree. C.
Abstract: An item identified by a location code is tracked through a transport image in a process controller (48). The transport image is characterized by input data to the specific construction of tracker units (32, 34). Location codes for each item are received by the process controller 48 and tracked by a service routine (152) to set a divert flag or an inject flag (172). Each location code is advanced through sections of the transport image by an INCH routine (200). When the location code matches a pocket identification a divert gate is actuated to remove an item from the distribution system.
Abstract: Antiinflammatory 4,5-diaryl-1H-imidazole-2-methanols, such as 4,5-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-.alpha.,.alpha.-di(trifluoromethyl)-1H-imidazole-2 -methanol are useful in treatment of arthritis.
Abstract: A flame-retardant polyamide composition is described which is non-brittle. The composition is comprised of a nylon 66 or nylon 66/6, a brominated polystyrene, antimony oxide and a selected non-ionic surfactant.
Abstract: A gun aiming arrangement uses a visible light or infra-red television camera to feed target area data to an auto-lock-follow (ALF) circuit. The ALF circuit is caused to lock onto a part of the area chosen using a sighting arrangement operated by the gunman. The gun automatically fires when the deviation between the aim of the gun and the target as sensed by the ALF circuit has a predetermined characteristic.
Abstract: High molecular weight processible polymers derived from 2,6- and 2,7-diacids, diols and diamines of 9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracenes and various complementary comonomers are prepared. These are converted into rigid, thermally-stable anthraceno polyesters and polyamides by thermal removal of the 9,10-ethano bridge.
