  • Patent number: 4299379
Abstract: A device for transporting and buffering a flow of small articles, such as mail pieces, includes a conveyor belt that moves the articles onto a linearly displaceable carriage which delivers the articles into a buffer stack at a constant entrance angle regardless of buffer stack size. Articles in the buffer stack are supported and agitated by a plurality of rotating beater bars. Agitation causes skewed articles to level while the rotation of the beater bars transports the articles toward a moving edging belt that propels them into a feeder output. One of the plurality of beater bars includes screw thread sections for advancing the articles toward the feeder output.

  • Patent number: 4299497
Abstract: A portable instrument quantitatively determining the distinctness of image of a sample paint film by providing comparison of the film with several standard films of known distinctness of image is provided. The instrument displays the sample and one of the standards within an enclosed casing while an image forming pattern is projected simultaneously on both by a light source within the instrument. By changing the standard which is displayed, an observer compares the distinctness of image of the sample with the known values of several standards until a match is found.

  • Patent number: 4298915
Abstract: A child's night light in the form of a holdable doll figure having a movable portion such as an arm which may be raised and lowered. The arm may hold an object such as a representation of a lantern or candle that holds a light bulb which automatically goes on when the arm is raised and goes off when the arm is lowered. The light bulb may be provided with a suitable light-diffusing cover, and it may be so positioned, when raised, to fully illuminate the three-dimensional contoured face of the doll without undesirable dark, scary shadow effects as would frighten the child. The doll may have a soft holdable body with at least the movable arm being a rigid molded part pivotally mounted at the shoulder of the doll. An off-on switch may be provided at the shoulder and be operable by the pivotal movement of the arm. The lantern may be detachable and may contain batteries that are electrically connected to the light bulb through the switch.

  • Patent number: RE30789
Abstract: An improved process for coating sheet substrates with thermoplastic polymer is disclosed. In the process the sheet substrate forms one die lip of the extrusion coating die. The sheet substrate is passed from face-to-face contact with the metal block of the extrusion coating die into a spaced apart relationship with one die lip of the extrusion coating die, the sheet substrate forming the second die lip. Molten thermoplastic polymer is extruded into the space between the one die lip and the sheet substrate, thereby coating the sheet substrate with polymer. The preferred polymer is a poly-.alpha.-olefin, especially polyethylene or a copolymer of ethylene and butene-1. The preferred sheet substrate has orifices in the surfaces thereof. The process may be used to coat sheet substrates with a thermoplastic polymer, e.g. in the manufacture of form boards for the construction industry.
