  • Patent number: 4308453
Abstract: An odometer i.e. a distance recorder, for a vehicle has a counting mechanism driven by a stepping mechanism which is in turn driven with rotation of a vehicle wheel. The stepping mechanism has a plurality of pawls which reciprocate with wheel rotation and which can advance respective ratchet wheels. For a given vehicle wheel size, one of the pawls is selected to operate its ratchet wheel by a cam means which then disables the or each other pawl from engagement with associated ratchet(s).

  • Patent number: 4308455
Abstract: A method for reading bar-coded labels by taking ratios of successive bars and spaces, then discriminating and categorizing the ratios of one of four possibilities. This output is combined and decoded into characters using a read-only-memory. The characters along with information on spacing between the characters is then passed to a microprocessor. The microprocessor decides which of the characters are valid and assembles a complete scans worth of information by making use of the data relating to the separation between characters. Handling the data in this fashion provides a means to assemble data from partial scans of the label into one complete scan.

  • Patent number: 4306375
Abstract: A toy vehicle only slightly longer than a "penlight" battery, and with chassis less than twice the width of such a battery, is able (traction permitting) to climb any grade on which it will not tip over backward--grades up to about 40.degree.--and to negotiate a vertical step taller than its tire radius. The AA-battery-powered four-wheel-drive vehicle has a small electric motor with a double-ended shaft, and a symmetrical gearing system consisting of, at each end of the motor, a pinion fixed on the shaft, a spur gear driven by the pinion and driving a worm, and a worm gear keyed to a corresponding axle. The motor, pinions, spur gears and worms, and the upper portions of the worm gears, are aligned along one side wall inside the vehicle chassis, with the battery alongside them occupying the rest of the chassis. Traction and climbing characteristics are enhanced by twice-overscale tires, preferably of open foam, with highly pronounced treads.

  • Patent number: 4306732
Abstract: A control for selectively setting the operating depth of a ground working agricultural tool without changing the elevated height of the tool when in the transport position. The control includes a ground supported wheel frame pivotally mounting a tool frame. The tool frame is pivoted on the wheel frame between a raised inoperative position and a lowered operative position by operation of a cylinder assembly. The cylinder assembly is pivoted at one end to the tool frame. Its remaining end is connected to a bracket on the wheel frame. The bracket includes a slot, slidably mounting the remaining end of the cylinder. The slot is aligned along an arc centered on the pivot axis of the cylinder at its one end when the tool frame is elevated to the inoperative position. The slot is inclined upwardly toward this pivot axis as the tool frame is lowered to the operative position.

  • Patent number: 4305314
Abstract: A partially cutaway circular cylindrical tool for changing the master pins in an Almont lock is presented. The tool is fixedly coupled at one end along its axis to a handle which may be a key handle. At the opposite end, the tool comprises a plug stop which prevents the tool from going too far into the Almont lock. The partially cutaway circular cylindrical surface defines a master pin slot, two wire slots, a wire slot ridge, a stationary pin slot, and a pin holding cam ridge, which includes a cam adjacent to the master pin slot all parallel to the axis. Perpendicular to the axis and disposed about halfway between the end of the plug stop inserted into the lock and the point of coupling between the handle and the balance of the tool is a perpendicular stationary pin slot which entends between the master pin slot and the stationary pin slot. In operation, the tool is inserted into the Almont lock and rotated so that the master pins, which are wafer tumblers, slide up the master pin slot.
