Abstract: A communications cable is provided that reduces the additive distortion of intended information encoded as electromagnetic energy that propagates longitudinally along the cable by varying the propagation velocity along its length. The additive distortion is reduced by varying the propagation periodically at a frequency that is lower than the highest frequency at which said electromagnetic energy propagates along said cable.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of calculating energy stored in a body and creating a data set of information and using that information to guide the owner of a body to achieve a desired stored energy quantity.
Abstract: Compositions and methods related to transgenic glyphosate/ALS inhibitor-tolerant maize plants are provided. Specifically, the present invention provides maize plants having a DP-098140-6 event which imparts tolerance to glyphosate and at least one ALS-inhibiting herbicide. The maize plant harboring the DP-098140-6 event at the recited chromosomal location comprises genomic/transgene junctions having at least the polynucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:5 and/or 6. The characterization of the genomic insertion site of the DP-098140-6 event provides for an enhanced breeding efficiency and enables the use of molecular markers to track the transgene insert in the breeding populations and progeny thereof. Various methods and compositions for the identification, detection, and use of the maize DP-098140-6 events are provided.

Abstract: A converter device that changes the wavelength of optical signals originated by an OTDR to supervise optical networks, in a manner that eliminates the traffic signal interference in the supervision signal, is provided. A method for increasing the OTDR supervision distance range, wherein the converters are placed at route points where the optical signal from the OTDR reaches its useful attenuation limit and needs to be recovered, reducing the number of OTDRs utilized in the supervision system, is also provided.

Abstract: A process to prepare substantially pure glycolonitrile in an aqueous medium is provided by reacting hydrogen cyanide and formaldehyde. The formaldehyde feed stream is heated prior to reacting with hydrogen cyanide, resulting in an aqueous glycolonitrile solution with fewer impurities, especially less unreacted formaldehyde, than is obtained by other methods. The process enables production of an aqueous glycolonitrile solution that requires less post-reaction purification (if any at all) prior to enzymatically converting the glycolonitrile into glycolic acid.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cementitious composite includes: (1) forming mixing an extrudable cementitious composition by first forming a fibrous mixture comprising fibers, water and a rheology modifying agent and then adding hydraulic cement; (2) extruding the extrudable cementitious composition into a green extrudate, wherein the green extrudate is characterized by being form-stable and retaining substantially a predefined cross-sectional shape; (3) removing a portion of the water by evaporation to reduce density and increase porosity; and (4) causing or allowing the hydraulic cement to hydrate to form the cementitious composite. Such a process yields a cementitious composite that is suitable for use as a wood substitute. The wood-like building products can be sawed, nailed and screwed like ordinary wood.
Abstract: Systems and methods are furnished to efficiently display market information about an asset. The information displayed about an asset commercialized in a market includes a window, including a market information display area, an offer button, a graphic button, a details button in the window and a configuration button in the window. The information shown in the display area varies when the configuration button is selected and one of the buttons, whether offers, graphics or details are also selected.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, system and computer program for management of paid advertisements displayed in response to a search query entered into a search engine. A vendor's inventory is discovered by reading from an inventory database. Search terms are determined for item categories in the inventory database, reading from fields of the inventory database. A user can specify additional or replacement search terms to be associated with a particular item. Advertisement sets are then created for items which are currently available or “in stock,” each set containing an advertisement corresponding to an item, the associated search terms, and a landing page identifier. The landing page displays search results from the vendor's inventory database, relating to the corresponding item category for that advertisement.

Abstract: Two or more triangular apertures are employed to pass radiation from a source to a detector to reduce the amount of stray radiation received by the detector. Preferably, the two apertures are equilateral triangles oriented at 60 rotated relative to each other and have dimensions proportional to their distances from the detector. A Bessel filter is employed to reduce the effect of flicker and other rapid changes in intensity in the radiance from the source. The output of the sensor is integrated and sampled at sampling time intervals that are powers of two of time, and a reading is provided when the output of the integrator exceeds the same threshold under all radiation source intensity conditions so that the meter has a substantially constant resolution at different signal levels. Where the radiation from the source is transmitted or reflected by the sample before such radiation is detected by the detector, the instrument becomes a transmissometer or reflectometer.
