Patent number: 5616933Abstract: A thin film transistor includes a thin film transistor body above a gate electrode. The thin film transistor body is hydrogenated to prevent the transistor body from apparently capturing and releasing electrons. The transistor body itself is coated with an upper and lower layer of silicon nitride to prevent the trapped hydrogen from migrating out of the transistor body over time. This is formed by depositing a layer of silicon dioxide, then a layer of silicon nitride over the gate electrode, followed by deposition of a polysilicon layer which is then etched to form the transistor body. This is hydrogenated after threshold adjustment implant and source/drain implant and subsequently coated with an upper sealing layer of silicon nitride. This enables the establishment of relatively high Ion/Ioff ratio and improves the reliability of the transistor.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1995Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventor: Jia Li

Patent number: 5617146Abstract: A system for processing a television signal including a data component, such as extended data services data, includes a decoder for processing the data component to provide data representing time information. A control device responds to the data for modifying time information, e.g., time of day, that is maintained in the system. The time information decoded from the video signal is compared to the time information maintained in the system to determine a time difference. If the time difference is in a predetermined range, the time difference indicates that the time information from the television signal is invalid. The control device responds to the time difference being in the predetermined range by preventing modification of the time information maintained in the system. A user may provide an input via a device such as a remote control to control the manner in which the control device responds to the time difference.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1995Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: David J. Patent number: 5615092Abstract: A horizontal deflection circuit couples flyback pulses from a first transformer winding to a second transformer winding. The second winding is coupled to a source of unregulated DC voltage. A switch has input, output and control terminals. The output terminal is coupled to the first winding. The switch operates with a variable duty cycle for generating a regulated DC voltage at the output terminal. An inductor and a diode are coupled to the second winding. The inductor is also coupled to the input terminal. A pulse width modulator varies the duty cycle of the switch responsive to feedback and timing signals. Drive voltage for the control terminal is supplied by a first capacitor charged during retrace intervals and a second capacitor charged at the end of the retrace intervals by the first capacitor. The second capacitor is coupled to the control terminal and the drive voltage is discharged by the pulse width modulator.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth J. Patent number: 5615196Abstract: A disk apparatus wherein a cleaning member and a shutter for cleaning and covering an optical head are actuated by the motor used to drive a head positioning member (such as a screw shaft). During a reading operation, a screw shaft is rotated by a motor in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, and a carriage meshed with the screw shaft is driven to move an optical head over a disk. When the reading operation is stopped, the optical head is moved by the screw shaft to a retracted position. After the optical head is fully retracted, the screw shaft is further rotated by the motor and the screw shaft is then moved along its axis relative to the optical head. As the screw shaft moves, it pushes against a drive member, which in turn causes a support member to rotate so that the optical head is cleaned by a cleaning member provided on the support member, and is covered by a shutter, which is also formed on the support member.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Alpine Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Kazunari Kato

Patent number: 5614757Abstract: A monolithic multilayer ultra thin chip inductor is manufactured with two terminals on the same end of the component to reduce the mechanical stresses caused by a coefficient of expansion mismatch. A third no-connect terminal located on the opposite end may be used to mount the component when a more rigid connection is required. The inductor is constructed using a bottom and top coil layer, each having a coil and forming a termination point corresponding to the inductor terminals. The opposite ends of the coils form connection ends and are electrically connected to form a continuous coil from one terminal to the other. Optionally, a number of intermediate coil layers can be included between the bottom and top coil layers. The coil layers are selected from a set of coil layers. As a result, the total number of coil turns can be obtained by selecting the appropriate coil layers.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Dale Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Herman R.
