  • Patent number: 5642050
Abstract: A system for detecting metal targets located in a background environment such as the ground evaluates metal targets by processing components of signals at two or more different frequencies. A component of the received signal induced by the ground can be eliminated by subtracting signal components measured at two different frequencies. The received signal can be processed to account for changes in the background response with frequency. The type of an unknown target can be identified by processing background excluded components to produce data characterizing the target type.

  • Patent number: 5640606
Abstract: A dual bus, multi-function disk chassis is provided for use as an enclosure for hard disk drives that store audio or video. The chassis allows configuration of the disk drives for either one of two independent buses contained within the chassis without the need to re-cable any of the bus connections. These two buses are an audio bus for transmitting audio material and a video bus for transmitting video material. The chassis also contains multiple sets of edge connector pairs. Each of the edge connector pairs consists of a first edge connector for connection to the video bus and a second edge connector for connection to the audio bus. This arrangement allows the disk drives to be configured for audio or video storage depending on the orientation of the drive at insertion.

  • Patent number: 5640119
Abstract: An input signal (IN) and a threshold signal (Vt) are coupled to an output terminal (2) via the base-emitter paths of first (Q1) and second (Q2) transistors having respective collector electrodes connected to a supply voltage source (3). The output terminal (2) is coupled to a source of reference potential (4) via a first resistor (Re) and is coupled via a second resistor (Rd) to a selected plate of a capacitor (C1) that is connected between the collector and base electrodes of the second transistor (Q2). Circuit impedances are scaled such that Re>Rd>R1 wherein Re and Rd are the values of the first and second resistors, respectively, and R1 is a component of the output impedance of the threshold signal source (5).

  • Patent number: 5638343
Abstract: A method and system are provided for re-recording multi-track sound tracks onto two-channel sound recordings. A playback mechanism that has multiple speakers is provided for reproducing the sound from the multi-track sound track. The speakers are placed around a sound sensing unit that includes two microphones. Preferably, the sound sensing unit is a binaural head microphone. The sound detected by the binaural head microphone is recorded while the playback mechanism plays the multi-track sound track through the speakers. The binaural head microphone produces two channels of sound, so the recording produced is a two-channel recording regardless of how many tracks are on the original multi-track recording. The two signals generated by the binaural head microphone contain sound direction cues. When played back through headphones, the original sound is reproduced with the sound direction cues. Consequently, it sounds to a listener as if the listener is surrounded by speakers.

  • Patent number: 5638421
Abstract: An apparatus and method for indicating an incoming call that generates a voltage signal with a value representative of the current drawn by operation of the device. A circuit monitors the voltage signal and generates a waiting for call state signal whenever the value of the voltage signal decreases from a first selected higher value to a first selected lower value for a first preselected period of time. An RF detection circuit monitors the status of the device's transmitter and generates a transmitter active status signal whenever RF appears for a selected period of time.
