Patents Assigned to Engineering
  • Patent number: 9286524
Abstract: Disclosed herein are devices, systems, and methods for detecting the presence and orientation of traffic lane markings. Deep convolutional neural networks are used with convolutional layers and max-pooling layers to generate fully connected nodes. After the convolutional and max-pooling layers, two sublayers are applied, one to determine presence and one to determine geometry. The presence of a lane marking segment as detected by the first sublayer can serve as a gate for the second sublayer by regulating the credit assignment for training the network. Only when the first sublayer predicts actual presence will the geometric layout of the lane marking segment contribute to the training of the overall network. This achieves advantages with respect to accuracy and efficiency and contributes to efficient robust model selection.

  • Patent number: 9283584
Abstract: A liquid delivery system comprises a tank containing a supply of liquid. A positive displacement pump operates to withdraw the liquid from the tank via a suction conduit and to deliver a pressurized flow of the liquid via a delivery conduit. A metering orifice in the delivery conduit serves to modulate the flow of the liquid through the delivery conduit. A normally closed first valve located in the delivery conduit between the pump and the metering orifice is opened in response to a pressure of the liquid exceeding a threshold level, and is operative when open to deliver the liquid to the metering orifice at a substantially constant pressure. A bypass conduit communicates with the tank and with the delivery conduit at a location between the pump and the first valve. A flow restrictor in the bypass conduit serves to modulate a return flow of the liquid from the delivery conduit to the tank, thereby modulating the pressure of the liquid being delivered to the first valve.

  • Patent number: 9284500
Abstract: Methods are provided for producing lubricant base oils from petrolatum. After solvent dewaxing of a brightstock raffinate to form a brightstock base oil, petrolatum is generated as a side product. The petrolatum can be hydroprocessed to form base oils in high yield. The base oils formed from hydroprocessing of petrolatum have an unexpected pour point relationship. For a typical lubricant oil feedstock, the pour point of the base oils generated from the feedstock increases with the viscosity of the base oil. By contrast, lubricant base oils formed from hydroprocessing of petrolatum have a relatively flat pour point relationship, and some of the higher viscosity base oils unexpectedly have lower pour points than lower viscosity base oils generated from the same petrolatum feed. The base oils from petrolatum are also unusual in yielding both high viscosity and high viscosity index and can be generated while maintaining a high yield.

  • Publication number: 20160069156
Abstract: A wireline retrievable injection valve for an oil or gas well has an internal valve that is initially moved to open a flapper safety valve and also opens to allow fluid flow through the valve. The internal valve includes a sleeve that opens the flapper safety valve and shields the flapper safety valve from fluid. In this manner the flapper valve is protected from being caused to “flutter” or “chatter” due to pressure variations in the fluid flow, thereby damaging the seat.

  • Patent number: 9278044
Abstract: The invention includes devices and methods for reducing the appearance of cellulite in human skin. The device includes a belt having a tactile gripping portion for removably adhering to skin. When the belt is connected to a reciprocating vibratory massage device, the tactile belt grips the skin preventing substantial relative movement between the belt and the skin. On continued reciprocal movement of the belt through a stroke length and at a frequency, the outer layers of the skin are forcibly moved relative to the subcutaneous tissue layers thereby disrupting, stretching and/or tearing fat/collagen projections extending from the subcutaneous tissue into the outer skin layers thereby reducing the appearance of cellulite in the skin.
