  • Patent number: 9249934
Abstract: Adsorbent pellets coated with an outer nano-porous layer can be loaded with gas at loading pressures of 250 bar or greater, enabling a much higher loading than can be achieved at low pressures. The nano-porous layer provides nano-valves which can be sealed with an adsorbate such as ethanol or a hydrocarbon to close the nano-valves. The closed nano-valves maintain the high loading pressure inside the adsorbent pellets, and thus maintain the gas loading, during storage of the loaded nano-valved adsorbent pellets at much lower pressure. To release the gas, the nano-porous layer can be heated to a temperature sufficient to vaporize the adsorbate and open the nano-valves.

  • Patent number: 9251463
Abstract: Activity templates are generated from one or more existing smart environments (e.g., source spaces) based on sensor data from the one or more existing smart environments that corresponds to known activities. A target activity template is then generated for a new smart environment, e.g., the target space. The source space activity templates are then mapped to the target activity templates to enable recognition of activities based on sensor data received from the target space.

  • Patent number: 9249210
Abstract: Disclosed is an expression vector system for variants of coagulation Factor VIII (FVIII) and von Willebrand Factor (vWF). In detail, mutant vWF the size of which is significantly reduced by deleting exons but which has remarkably increased FVIII stabilizing and activating efficiency, and an expression vector system useful for the treatment of hemophilia which is capable of expressing the same along with FVIII are disclosed. Use of the mutant vWF with a reduced size enables effective expression of FVIII in a viral vector and significantly enhanced FVIII activity. Further, the viral vector may be effectively used to treat hemophilia through gene therapy.

  • Patent number: 9249990
Abstract: A trough collector for solar energy, with multiple parallel troughs preferably being contained within a single unit. The collector does not use conventional azimuth tracking in order to keep the sun's rays directed toward the parabola's focus as the sun moves across the sky. Instead, the relative position between the collecting device (preferably a conductive tube containing a circulating working fluid) and the plane of symmetry for each collector is adjusted so that the collecting device remains within the focal zone of the collector as the sun traverses the sky.

  • Publication number: 20160022578
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a polypeptide based block copolymer having biodegradability due to peptidase, and a process for the preparation thereof, and polymer micelles using the same. The block copolymer according to the present disclosure is a block copolymer of a polyethylene glycol-based compound having properties such that the solubility for water is different depending on the pH, but cannot form micelles due to a self-assembly phenomenon; and a polyglutamic acid-based compound formed using an aminolysis reaction of glutamic acid and tertiary amine in which the end of one alkyl group is substituted with NH2, or using an aminolysis reaction of glutamic acid and triamine. The block copolymer of the present disclosure has advantages in that the block polymer has both pH sensitivity and biodegradability due to peptidase in the body, and thereby a degradation rate related to a drug release cycle is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20160025535
Abstract: A microfluidic flow rate sensor includes a droplet within a channel and a droplet movement detector that generates a signal based on the position and/or movement of the droplet within the channel. A processor determines the flow rate of a fluid through the channel based on the signal received from the droplet movement detector. In one example, the droplet movement detector is an optical detector, such as a combination of a lens and an image capturing device. In other examples, the droplet is electrically conductive, and at least a portion of the channel is conductive or includes electrical contacts. The position of the droplet within the channel is determined by observing the electrical characteristics of the channel.
