Abstract: A system and method are provided for mounting, removing and retaining brake pads in disc brakes, such as air-operated disc brakes utilized on commercial vehicles, in a manner which does not require the use of separate brake pad retaining devices while providing positive retention of the brake pad. A preferred embodiment includes a brake caliper mount having brake pad abutment surfaces having radially-oriented and lateral grooves which permit a brake pad with corresponding projections on is lateral sides to be inserted through an opening of the brake caliper into the radially-oriented grooves until the backing plate projections are aligned with the lateral groove, and advancing the brake actuator behind the brake pad to place the brake pad in an operating position in which the actuator prevents the brake pad from realigning with the radially-oriented grooves until the actuator is retracted to permit brake pad extraction.

Abstract: Electromagnetic irradiation of functionalized fullerenes in an oxygen-free environment induces conversion of the functionalized fullerenes to carbon nanotubes, carbon nanohorns, carbon onions, diamonds and/or carbon schwarzites. The carbon nanotubes can be multi-wall carbon nanotubes. Advantageously, the subject invention can be used for in-situ synthesis of carbon nanostructures within a matrix to form a carbon nanostructure composite, where positioning of the carbon nanostructures is controlled by the manner of dispersion of the functionalized fullerenes in the matrix. Carbon nanotube comprising features, such as electrical connects, can be formed on a surface by irradiating a portion of a functionalized fullerene coating with a laser beam.

Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst complex or ligand, and compositions thereof, for use in a variety of organic reactions having high reactivity and enantioselectivity. The catalyst is a N-heterocyclic carbene having three fused rings with first and second rings being six-membered rings and the third being a five-membered ring. The first ring is fused to the second and has four substituents. The second ring has two nitrogens flanking a carbene atom with one nitrogen bound to a substituent. The carbene atom may optionally be bonded to a metal. The third ring is fused to the second ring and contains two nitrogens. The third ring of the catalyst has a double bond and two substituents on adjacent non-fused carbons. A non-fused nitrogen of the third ring is partially bonded to another substituent. Methods for the synthesis and use of the catalyst embodiments of the present invention are also provided.

Abstract: In one example embodiment, a method of volumetric image reconstruction of an examination region includes directing x-rays from an anode of an x-ray device towards the examination region from multiple positions relative to the examination region, including multiple focal spot positions radially shifted relative to the anode. X-rays that have passed through the examination region are detected and first multiple x-ray attenuation values are determined for each of the multiple positions. The first multiple x-ray values are based at least in part on the detected x-rays. Second multiple x-ray attenuation values associated with multiple levels are determined. The second multiple attenuation values are based at least in part on the first multiple attenuation values and the multiple positions. The method further includes generating a volumetric image reconstruction of the examination region based at least in part on the second multiple x-ray attenuation values.

Abstract: An indoor cycling device including a unique frame arrangement with fore and aft adjustable seat and handlebar assemblies. The assemblies support a seat and handlebars for fore and aft movement. The assemblies may include a receiver with an elongate aperture with a slider positioned therein. The slider defines a first channel receiving a moveable member. A handle is operably coupled with the member to move the member within the channel in a first direction or a second direction such that a frictionally coupling is caused between the slider and the receiver when the slider is moved in the first direction and releases the coupling when the slider is moved in the second direction.
