Abstract: An isotropic neutron detector includes a spherical secondary particle radiator component and a plurality of stacked semiconductor detectors. A first semiconductor detector is coupled to at least a portion of the spherical secondary particle radiator component, forming a portion of a first concentric shell thereover. A second semiconductor detector coupled to at least a portion of the first semiconductor detector, forming a portion of a second concentric shell thereover.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an triboelectric nanogenerator using an ionic elastomer that increases internal electric capacity and allows a large amount of electric charge to be located on a surface to generate a large amount of electrical energy. The triboelectric nanogenerator according to the present invention includes a first electrode; an ionic elastomer disposed on the first electrode and including an elastomer and an ionic liquid; a second electrode disposed to be spaced apart from the first electrode and electrically connected to the first electrode; and an insulator disposed under the second electrode, selectively contacting the ionic elastomer, and formed of a material that has a negative charge compared to the ionic elastomer.

Abstract: A method of measuring thermal conductivity of a material includes focusing a modulated pump laser beam having a modulation frequency that induces a cyclical steady-state temperature rise at a spot of a material, focusing a CW probe laser beam at the spot and generating a reflected probe beam reflected from the spot on the material, the reflected probe beam having a magnitude of a reflectance signal as a function of the temperature of the material and being periodic corresponding to the cyclical temperature rise, measuring the magnitude of the reflectance signals of the reflected probe beam, and determining the thermal conductivity by fitting the power of the pump beam and the measured magnitude of the reflectance signal to a thermal model which is a function of a thermal conductivity of the material relating the radial heat flux to the temperature rise.

Abstract: A bidirectional AC power converter, having a front-end comprising parallel sets of three switches in series, which connects multi-phase AC to coupling transformer through a first set of tank circuits, for synchronously bidirectionally converting electrical power between the multi-phase AC and a DC potential, and for converting electrical power between the DC potential to a bipolar electrical signal at a switching frequency, controlled such that two of each parallel set of three switches in series are soft-switched and the other switch is semi-soft switched; the coupling transformer being configured to pass the bipolar electrical power at the switching frequency through a second set of the tank circuits to a synchronous converter, which in turn transfers the electrical power to a secondary system at a frequency different from the switching frequency.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods, kits, and compositions for: i) detecting the level of 3-bromotyrosine in a sample that has been treated to liberate 3-bromotyrosine from 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine, and/or ii) detecting the level of 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine, and/or the combined level of both 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine and 3-bromotyrosine, in a sample that has not been treated to liberate 3-bromotyrosine from 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine. Abstract: A communication system includes a transmitter that encodes binary bits of each of a plurality of data streams into a plurality of symbols and converts the plurality of symbols into a plurality of output signals, respectively corresponding to a plurality of channels, the converting based on a transmission rule defined by a first matrix; and a receiver that combines the plurality of output signals, received through the plurality of channels, the combining based on a reception rule defined by a second matrix, the combining restoring the plurality of symbols, and the receiver decodes the plurality of symbols into the binary bits. The first matrix and the second matrix are determined based on a third matrix that models a crosstalk effect between adjacent channels from among the plurality of channels, to reduce the crosstalk effect.
