Abstract: A system and method for dynamically deactivating engine cylinders of an engine equipped with a cylinder deactivation system, where the system and method control torsional vibration in the engine while deactivating cylinders using a computer programed with a desired firing density and a controlled range of engine vibration frequencies. The computer dynamically determines a cylinder firing pattern that provides the desired firing density while optimizing a cost function norm in the controlled range of engine vibration frequencies. The cylinder deactivation system in the engine is then controlled using the determined cylinder firing pattern.

Abstract: A low inductance power module with low power loop inductance and high-power density is provided. The power module may include a vertical power loop structure, a cooling layer, and a thermal dissipation structure. The vertical power loop structure may utilize a substrate bottom conduction layer for electrical conduction. The thermal dissipation structure may be disposed between the substrate bottom conduction layer and the cooling layer. The vertical power loop structure may include integrated decoupling capacitors. Alternatively, the structure may include no integrated decoupling capacitors. The vertical power loop structure may include one or more half-bridge structures connected in parallel, each with its own integrated decoupling capacitors. The vertical power loop structure reduces power loop inductance in the power module, and the thermal dissipation structure provides electrical insulation, mechanical support, and thermal conduction.
Abstract: A bone screw may be insertable into a bone. The bone screw may have a distal member with bone-engaging threads, a proximal member configured to slidably engage the distal member, and a tension member with a proximal end coupled to the proximal member, and a distal end coupled to the distal member such that, in response to motion of the distal member away from the proximal member, the tension member elongates and urges the distal member to move toward the proximal member. The tension member may be configured such that, at a minimum length of the bone screw, the tension member is pre-stretched so that the tension member is under tension to urge the bone screw to shorten. The bone screw may be inserted in the pre-stretched state. A pre-stretch driver may be used to tension the bone screw prior to or during insertion.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treating brain cancer containing an aldehyde inhibitor and an anticancer drug. Since there are many types of brain cancer and the boundary between brain cells and tumor cells in brain cancer is not clear, brain cancer is particularly difficult to treat. The pharmaceutical composition of the present disclosure may further contain a biguanide-based compound as needed, wherein the compound is preferably phenformin. The pharmaceutical composition of the present disclosure is very effective for the treatment and improvement of prognosis of brain cancer, and has remarkable effects of killing cancer cells and inhibiting cancer stem cell characteristics, compared to when each of the active ingredients is administered alone. Thus, it is expected that the pharmaceutical composition of the present disclosure will be widely used in the field of brain cancer treatment.

Abstract: A gas chromatographic (GC) column using a zwitterionic compound and methods of use thereof are disclosed herein. The volatile free acids were observed to strongly retain on these zwitterionic compounds-based columns with excellent peak symmetry. By carefully tuning the structures of these zwitterionic compounds, different selectivity toward volatile free acids was demonstrated. These stationary phases possess a wide working range with thermal stabilities at higher temperatures.
