Patent number: 11878116Abstract: A tracheal sampling device is used to collect or acquire cells from an animal, such as at or near the tracheo-bronchial or larynx of an animal. The device includes a flexible and elongated shaft or stem, and a collection member at a distal end of the device. The collection member could be a swab or other member to best collect mucus. The device is used by inserting the collection end into an animal to position the collection member at or near the cell collection site, which may be in or around the larynx. The collection member is removed after collecting cells, which can be reviewed, tested, or otherwise managed to determine the presence of a disease or other bacteria. The length of the shaft or stem allows for optimal positioning of the swab in a variety of animal species and ages. The device can be disposed after each use.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2020Date of Patent: January 23, 2024Assignee: Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Maria J. Publication number: 20240018550Abstract: Proposed are an adenine base editor having increased thymine-cytosine sequence-specific cytosine base editing activity, a cytosine base editing method, and a cytosine base editing kit. The editor, produced by introducing a P48R mutation into an adenosine deaminase, has an operating range that is more sophisticated than conventional cytosine base editors, allows cytosine base editing only when cytosine is positioned right behind thymine, thereby enabling elaborate editing even when there is a plurality of cytosines within the range, and enables cytosine to be substituted with thymine or guanine in the presence or absence of UGI, respectively. Therefore, the cytosine base editing composition can be effectively used in the fields of gene therapy or new crop development which requires precise editing of only cytosine in all living organisms, including humans, plants, and bacteria.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2021Publication date: January 18, 2024Applicants: IUCF-HYU (INDUSTRY-UNIVERSITY COOPERATION FOUNDATION HANYANG UNIVERSITY), Korea University Research and Business FoundationInventors: Sangsu BAE, You Kyeong JEONG, Seokhoon LEE, Jae-Sung WOO
