Abstract: A water-based ink comprising a diacetylene monomer, a hydrochromic polydiacetylene paper prepared using the ink, and uses therefor are provided. The water-based ink includes a diacetylene monomer, and a solvent mixture comprising water and an alcohol. The diacetylene monomer has a ionic functional group represented by R+X?, wherein X? is F?, Cl?, Br?, I?, PF6?, BF4?, bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide (TFSI) (Tf2N?), trifluoromethanesulfonate (TfO?), SCN?, or CH3COO?, and R+ is N+—R1-heterocyclic quaternary ammonium.

Abstract: An on-demand disposable virtual work system that includes: a virtual machine monitor to host virtual machines, a virtual machine pool manager, a host operating system, a host program permissions list, and a request handler module. The virtual machine pool manager manages virtual machine resources. The host operating system interfaces with a user and virtual machines created with an image of a reference operating system. The host program permissions list may be a black list and/or a white list used to indicate allowable programs. The request handler module allows execution of the program if the program is allowable. If the program is not allowable, the host request handler module: denies program execution and urges a virtual machine specified by the virtual machine pool manager to execute the program. Abstract: Disclosed are methods and probiotic compositions for the treatment of a metabolic disease or disorder such as, e.g., obesity, type 2 diabetes, or fatty liver. In some embodiments, heat-inactivated Parabacteroides goldsteinii is enterically administered to a subject, such as a human patient, to treat the metabolic disease or disorder or to promote the development of warm microbiota to treat the metabolic disease or disorder. In some aspects, spermine or spermidine may be administered to a subject or used in vitro to promote the growth of microbiota that can be used for the treatment of a metabolic disease or disorder.
Abstract: A compositional simulator that is fully compositional and more robust and accurate is disclosed. Relative permeability (kr) and capillary pressure (Pc) are modeled as state functions, making them unique for a given set of inputs, which can include Euler characteristic, wettability, pore connectivity, saturation, and capillary number. All of these are made to be a function of composition, T, and P or rock properties. These state function kr-Pc models are fully compositional and can fit experimental data, including complex processes such as hysteresis. The models can be tuned to measured relative permeability data, and then give consistent predictions away from that measured data set. Phase labeling problems are eliminated. Flux calculations from one grid block to another are based on phase compositions. Simulations for three or four-phase hydrocarbon phases are possible. Time-step sizes increase to stability limits of implicit-explicit methods.

Abstract: The invention provides adeno-associated virus (AAV) replication (Rep) sequences. In one embodiment, the invention provides nucleotide sequences encoding a chimeric protein, wherein the encoded chimeric protein contains a wild type AAV Rep inhibitory amino acid sequence, and wherein the nucleotide sequences contain a scrambled and/or deoptimized polynucleotide sequence encoding the wild type AAV Rep inhibitory amino acid sequence. Also provided are methods for detecting portions of the AAV Rep inhibitory amino acid sequence, which reduce replication and/or infection and/or productive infection by viruses. The invention's compositions and methods are useful for site-specific integration and/or expression of heterologous sequences by recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) vectors and by rAAV virus particles, such as hybrid viruses (e.g., Ad-AAV) comprising such vectors.

Abstract: The synthesis of layered freestanding papers composed of acid-functionalized, few-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) flakes for use as a binder-free conducting electrode in NIB applications are described. The mechanical and electrochemical performance of the layered freestanding papers is also described. Synthesis was achieved through vacuum filtration of highly homogenous dispersions comprising varying weight percentages of exfoliated MoS2 flakes in graphene oxide in DI water, followed by thermal reduction. The electrochemical behavior of the composite paper was evaluated as a counter electrode against pure Na foil in a half-cell configuration. In addition, the uniaxial tensile testing of the composite papers demonstrated their exceptionally high fracture strength.
