Abstract: The invention described herein pertains to four series of aza-A-ring indenoisoquinolines, which are inhibitors of topoisomerase IB (Top1), and the processes for preparing said aza-A-ring indenoisoquinolines. Also described are methods for treating cancer in mammals using the described aza-A-ring indenoisoquinoline compounds or pharmaceutical formulations thereof.

Abstract: An exosomal composition is provided that comprises a therapeutic agent encapsulated by an exosome. The therapeutic agent can be a phytochemical agent, a chemotherapeutic agent, or a Stat3 inhibitor. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the exosomal compositions are also provided. Abstract: A superhydrophobic appliance is an elastomeric material with a surface having a multiplicity of re-entrant features. The elastomeric material can be a polydimethylsiloxane network. The superhydrophobic appliance can be formed by infusing a portion of a polydimethylsiloxane polymeric precursor partially into the pores of a porous membrane, curing to the polymeric network, and separating the membrane from the appliance to expose the superhydrophobic surface. The superhydrophobic surface can be subsequently modified to form a fluorinated surface that is oleophobic or superoleophobic in addition to being superhydrophobic.

Abstract: An integrated circuit is provided with a (bridge) rectifier circuit configured to couple to an alternating current (AC) supply to a (string of) LEDs monolithically fabricated on substrate, preferably on a patterned sapphire substrate (PSS). The rectifier including at least one schottky barrier diode configured to have a reverse-bias breakdown voltage substantially equal to or greater than half a peak voltage of the AC supply. Further embodiments include a method for fabricating an integrated Schottky barrier diode (SBD) with a LED on a LED wafer. Some embodiments can include etching processes to a wafer that may include a plurality of processing cycles. Some embodiments can further include a wafer having a patterned substrate. The wafer with the patterned substrate may have an interface layer configured to facilitate increasing a forward bias current density of the SBD.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the production of biofuels and chemical feedstocks. The present invention provides recombinant yeast having enhanced xylose fermentation capabilities. Methods of using such recombinant yeast for improved biofuel and chemical feedstock production are also provided.
Abstract: Described are stable nanoparticle complexes comprising paclitaxel, albumin and rituximab. The nanoparticle complexes are suitable for the treatment of cancer.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to systems and methods for measuring wave fields of a body of water. A system can include a radiation source and an antenna that can cooperate with the radiation source to transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal to a wave field having one or more waves. The antenna can receive backscattered signals from the wave field. The system can include a local oscillator and a processor. The local oscillator downconverts the backscattered signals into baseband signals and the processor can process the baseband signals to determine a relative velocity of each of the waves of the wave field. The processor can further be programmed to identify an observed portion of the backscattered signals as bad data and remove the bad data from further processing.

Abstract: A system and method for estimating a sequence of human poses in an unconstrained video. In the present invention, a unified two stage, tree-based, optimization problem is solved for which an efficient and exact solution exists. While the proposed method finds an exact solution, it does not sacrifice the ability to model the spatial and temporal constraints between body parts in the video frames on the unconstrained video.

Abstract: Processes are provided that include providing a copper-manganese alloy containing copper and manganese and having an amount of manganese that is at least 32 weight percent and not more than 40 weight percent of a combined total amount of the copper and manganese in the copper-manganese alloy, and casting the copper-manganese alloy by multidirectional solidification to produce a product in the form of a casting. The copper-manganese alloy has a composition sufficiently near the congruent melting point of the Cu—Mn alloy system to sufficiently avoid dendritic growth during the multidirectional solidification of the copper-manganese alloy to avoid the formation of microporosity attributable to dendritic growth. The product has a cast microstructure having a cellular and/or planar solidification structure free of dendritic growth and having multidirectional columnar grains.
Abstract: An operating configuration for a power system during a particular time period may be derived from a net load forecast for the power system during the particular time period. The operating configuration may be based on inter-temporal and/or continuous-time characteristics of the net load forecast. A power system manager may schedule power generation and/or energy storage units to satisfy the net load forecast at minimal cost. The power generation and/or energy storage units may be scheduled in accordance with inter-temporal and/or continuous-time characteristics of the net load. The schedule may comply with generation trajectory and/or ramping constraints of the power generating units, power trajectory and/or ramping constraints of the energy storage units, and so on.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are an artificial cell membrane including a supported lipid bilayer (SLB) including a substrate and mobility-decreased metal particles bonded onto the substrate; an analysis device or kit including the artificial cell membrane and examining the interactions between molecules, in which one molecule is bonded to the surface of a mobility-decreased metal particle bonded to the artificial cell membrane and the other molecule is bonded to the surface of a mobility-increased metal particle bonded to a lipid at a low valency; a method of examining the interactions between molecules using the analysis device; a kit for quantitative or qualitative analysis of a target material including the artificial cell membrane by plasmonic scattering measurements; and a multiple analysis kit capable of detecting a plurality of target materials using a plurality of metal particles having different plasmonic scattering wavelengths and/or having mobility on a supported lipid bilayer.
