Abstract: A system and method includes generating, with a configuration controller, a configuration bitstream including configuration bits to dynamically define the configuration of a reconfigurable integrated circuit by setting a state of a subset of configuration state memory units. The configuration controller accesses individual configuration state memory units of the subset according to a scan path through the configuration state memory units traversed according to a delay factor based, at least in part, on clock frequency of a clock signal produced by a configuration clock and configures the individual configuration state memory units with corresponding configuration bits of the configuration bitstream.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a technique for manufacturing a self-humidifying membrane including a hydrophobic thin film-coating layer having a nano-sized crack morphology pattern on the surface of an aromatic hydrocarbon-based polymer ion exchange membrane and applying the membrane to a reverse electrodialysis process. The self-humidifying membrane including a hydrophobic thin film-coating layer having a nano-sized crack morphology pattern on the surface of an aromatic hydrocarbon-based polymer ion exchange membrane, manufactured according to the present disclosure, embodies a low bulk resistance of the ion exchange membrane and significantly improves ion selectivity, thereby overcoming the trade-off relationship between membrane resistance and ion selectivity, and thus may be commercially available as an anion and cation exchange membrane of a reverse electrodialysis device.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-cost, thermally reversible valve for paper-fluidic diagnostic devices. In particular, this invention demonstrates a tunable valve mechanism fabricated by wax-ink printing and localized heating via thin-film resistors to sequentially release liquids through a cellulose or nitrocellulose membrane. The wax-ink valve can obstruct fluid flow for a sustained time and are thermally actuated to release a controlled amount of liquid past the valve. This integrated paper-fluidic diagnostic assay device requires minimal user involvement, can be easily manufactured and tuned to meet various fluid delivery timing and incubation needs.

Abstract: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) possesses array of strategies to evade antibiotics through mutational inactivation, hiding inside host immune cells or concealing inside the biofilm in a sessile form. We report a drug-free approach to eradicate MRSA through blue-light bleaching of staphyloxanthin (STX), an anti-oxidative carotenoid residing inside the cell membrane of S. aureus. The photobleaching process, uncovered through a transient absorption imaging study and quantitated by mass spectrometry, decomposes STX and sensitizes MRSA to reactive oxygen species attack. Consequently, photobleaching using low-level blue light exhibits high-level synergy when combined with low-concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Antimicrobial effectiveness of this synergistic therapy is validated in MRSA culture, MRSA-infected macrophage cells, biofilm, and a mouse wound infection model. Collectively, these findings highlight broad applications of STX photobleaching for MRSA-infected diseases.

Abstract: An assay for a GCH1 allele and associated genotype for the screening, prediction, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and treatment response of psychiatric, neuropsychiatric, and neurological disorders, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder, and for defining treatments of such disorders. The presence of a variant in the GCH1 gene, alone or in conjunction with a measurement of low or altered biopterin, or altered BH4 system measures, is used to screen or diagnose subjects at risk for developing a psychiatric, neuropsychiatric, or neurological disorder. The genetic assay, with or without a biopterin or BH4 system assay, may also be used to determine treatment regimens. For subjects with an impaired BH4 system, treatments to increase or normalize biopterin, BH4, or the BH4 system can also be used, such as BH4 supplementation, lithium treatment, phenylalanine treatment, or other treatments and therapies.
