Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic head slider from a flying surface pattern formed on one surface of a long and slender rectangular parallelepiped slider block having a plurality of thin film magnetic head elements aligned in a row. The method includes preparing an arrangement jig including a guide plate and an adhesive rubber plate which adheres onto a lower surface of the guide plate by its adhesive force. The method also includes placing blocks in the accommodation holes on the guide plate in such a manner that the surface of each block on which a pattern is formed is directed upward and each block is fixed by the adhesive force of the rubber plate. The rubber plate is then peeled off after an upper surface of the arrangement jig has been set upside down. Pouring and penetrating hardening liquid into clearances formed between the accommodation holes on the guide plate and the blocks is the next step. The guide plate is then fixed onto a base plate and a pattern is formed on the surface of each block.
Abstract: A disk device is disclosed in which an air inlet to an air passage for ventilation between inside and outside of the disk device is secured even when the upper or side surface of the housing of the disk device is closed, while at the same time suppressing the noises and vibrations originating from the disk device. A spindle motor for carrying at least a recording disk and an actuator for driving a carriage having a head for accessing the disk are mounted on the base of the housing. A cover is mounted on the base through a gasket thereby to hermetically seal the interior of the disk device. A ventilation structure is formed in the cover.
Abstract: An optical information storage unit for reproducing information recorded on a magneto-optic recording medium having a land and a groove as recording tracks, is provided with at least one of first and second systems, where the first system includes a 1/2 wave plate which is arranged so that a crystal optical axis of the 1/2 wave plate and an electrical vector of a light beam emitted from a light source forms approximately 45 degrees, where the 1/2 wave plate being removable from a position of the light beam, and the second system is arranged with the 1/2 wave plate so that the crystal optical axis of the 1/2 wave plate and the electrical vector of the light beam emitted from the light source forms approximately 45 degrees, where the 1/2 wave plate is movable so that another 1/2 wave plate can move to the position of the light beam so that a crystal optical axis of the other 1/2 wave plate is parallel to or perpendicular to the electrical vector.
Abstract: The invention provides a paper supply apparatus for an image reading apparatus, an image reading apparatus with a paper supply apparatus and a paper supply apparatus which can be used suitably with an image scanner wherein a large amount of paper sheets can be taken out one by one with certainty and read successively and rapidly. The paper supply apparatus successively supplies paper sheets accommodated therein to a paper transport mechanism along which an optical image reading mechanism is disposed, and comprises a paper supply hopper, a paper supply roller located above the paper supply hopper for forwarding the paper sheets accommodated in the paper supply hopper, a paper supply roller driving mechanism for rotating the paper supply roller, and a paper separation mechanism for preventing two or more paper sheets forwarded by the paper supply roller from being sent to the paper transport mechanism.
Abstract: A plan or vertical type thin film magnetic head is produced by a process comprising the steps of: forming a gap separator layer of a non-magnetic material on the surface of a substrate, while the forming process is not limited to plating; forming a mask layer on the gap layer; patterning the mask layer to form a shield; etching the gap layer, while the shield functions as a mask, thereby forming a gap wall having a width narrower than that of the shield independent of the resolution degree of the resist; forming a magnetic pole layer of a soft magnetic material on the surface of the substrate by exposing the resist at a time, thereby the formed magnetic pole layer being separated by the gap wall; and, utilizing the gap wall as a magnetic pole gap of the magnetic pole layer.
Abstract: A method for a prediction correlation between a first group of branch instructions in a bunch of instructions and a second group of branch instructions in a bunch of instructions is disclosed. The method includes indicating a direction of a plurality of branch instructions in a bunch of instructions. More particularly, the method includes building an address composed of an instruction fetch address and bits in a history register. The method accesses a bunch of instructions using the fetch address and accesses a prediction bits set from a branch history table using the composed address. The accessed bunch of instructions are processed. Further, the history register and the branch history table are updated to correlate a first group of a branch instructions in the accessed bunch of instructions to a second group of branch instructions in a next group of branch instructions in the bunch of instructions.

Abstract: An optical device and manufacturing method therefor relate to a slab optical waveguide, a first optical waveguide, a plurality of second optical waveguides and a reflector. The slab optical waveguide has first and second ends. The first optical waveguide is optically connected to the first end of the slab optical waveguide. The plurality of second optical waveguides each have first and second guide bars with the first guide bars being optically connected to the second end of the slab optical waveguide and the second guide bars being optically connected to the first guide bars. The second guide bars may have a width greater than that of the first guide bars. The reflector is optically connected to each of the second guide bars of the second optical waveguides. The reflector may be formed on an end face on each of the second guide bars substantially perpendicular to an optical axis of the respective first guide bars.
Abstract: The defluxing agent for flux residue after soldering contains an acid (preferably an organic acid, and particularly an acid stronger than abietic acid; for example, acrylic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, benzoic acid) and an organic solvent (for example, xylene, benzyl acetate, methyl .alpha.-hydroxyisobutyrate, cyclohexanone, methyl .beta.-methoxyisobutyrate), and if necessary it further contains a monohydric alcohol, a surfactant and a corrosion inhibitor. Rinsing is preferably performed after the cleaning, using a solvent which is miscible with the defluxing agent, in order to completely remove the acid. There is also disclosed a cleaning apparatus which may be generally used for this and other cleaning.
Abstract: There are provided kinematic arithmetic method and apparatus for evaluating positions and orientations of links of a link mechanism in which a plurality of links are coupled through joints. An angular acceleration of a joint is evaluated by substituating on a numerical basis an angle, an angular velocity, and a torque, of the joint into a relation. A numerical integration of the angular acceleration of the joint thus determined is preformed to evaluate the angle of the joint. A kinematics operation is performed to evaluate positions and orientations of the links on the basis of the angle of the joint determined through the numerical integration. A resultant of the kinematics operation is displayed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a PRML regenerating apparatus for regenerating a signal read by a head from a storage medium. This PRML regenerating apparatus has a waveform equalizing circuit for waveform-equalizing the read signal, a maximum-likelihood decoder for maximum-likelihood-decoding, after obtaining a determination value by comparing the equalized output with upper and lower slice levels, this determination value and a control circuit for setting variable a distance between the upper slice level and the lower slice level of the maximum-likelihood decoder. The distance between the upper and lower slice levels can be thereby set variable in accordance with an equalization characteristic. A ternary determination circuit of the maximum-likelihood decoder is constructed of a memory for storing a correspondence table of the equalized output and the upper or lower slice level versus the determination result and the next upper or lower slice level.
Abstract: This invention relates to a magnetic head assembly for information recording and reproduction on and from a magnetic disk using a magnetic head, a method of manufacturing the same and a magnetic disk apparatus. To provide a magnetic head at a low cost, a head chip (1) having an insulating layer, a magnetic pole (16), a coil (17) and a terminal portion (11, 13) of the coil, and a flexible support body (2) having a lead portion and a terminal portion (21, 23) to be connected to the terminal portion of the head chip (1), and attached to the arm (3), for supporting the head chip (1) are provided.
Abstract: A doped fiber amplifier which provides bidirectional pumping to amplify a signal light, and reduces instability of gain caused by the bidirectional pumping. The doped fiber amplifier includes a rare earth element doped optical fiber, a first light source and a second light source. The optical fiber has first and second ends, with the signal light propagating through the optical fiber from the first end to the second end. The first light source provides pump light which propagates in the optical fiber from the first end to the second end and is at a first wavelength. The second light source provides pump light which propagates in the optical fiber from the second end to the first end and is at a second wavelength. The first wavelength is different from the second wavelength. The pump light provided by the first and second light sources causes the signal light to be amplified as the signal light propagates through the optical fiber.
Abstract: A switch system and method transfer a data packet from a source data port to one or more destination data ports through a switch. The system comprises a source input buffer, a first and a second source input path, a first and a second output path and at least one crosspoint circuit. The source input buffer includes a first and a second data section. The first and the second data sections are coupled to the first and the second input paths respectively. The first and the second input paths couple through the crosspoint circuits at each intersection with the first and the second output paths. The method includes loading the data packets into data sections of an input buffer, transferring each data packet across an input path dedicated for each data section, transmitting each data packet over its input path, and switching the data from the input path to the output path based on a voltage differential.
Abstract: An information processing system having a screen display device and an input device with an improved operability in selecting a reactive area, i.e., an icon, on the screen using the input device. When a user clicks a mouse button with a mouse cursor positioned outside a reactive area displayed on a screen, the reactive area is extended and an extended portion is displayed. If the mouse cursor is moved into the extended portion and the mouse button is clicked, a process corresponding to the original reactive area is activated and the extended display is cancelled.
Abstract: With using one scanning stage 19 where a plurality of wafers 16A to 16E is mounted through wafer holders 20A to 20E and balancing stage 21 disposed below scanning stage 19, scanning stage 19 is scanned based on exposure data common to a plurality of charged particle beam exposure apparatus 10A to 10E, and balancing stage 21 is scanned so that barycenter G of scanning stage 19 and balancing stage 21 becomes a fixed point. The positions of reflecting mirrors 70L and 70R secured to stage 19 are measured and based on their values, the expansion/contraction ratio of stage 19 and the positions of samples 16A to 16E are calculated to obtain deviation of the positions from target positions. Stage 19 is modeled such that rigid areas 19A to 19E are loosely connected, and for each area, the positions of three points are measured to calculate deviation of the exposure target position due to rotation of each ridged area. These deviations are corrected by deflectors 18A to 18D.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a semiconductor device has the steps of: forming a wiring pattern by dry etching a wiring layer on a semiconductor substrate, using a resist pattern as a mask; immersing the wiring pattern in amine containing liquid to remove deposition residues formed during the dry etching; then, processing the wiring pattern with fluid not containing amine and being capable of removing deposition residues; forming a conformal insulating layer on the processed wiring pattern; and forming an insulating layer having a planarizing function on the conformal insulating layer by CVD. This method is suitable for multi-layer wiring, and can form an interlayer insulating film having a satisfactory planarizing function.

Abstract: A high-performance processor is disclosed with structure and methods for: (1) aggressively scheduling long latency instructions including load/store instructions while maintaining precise state; (2) maintaining and restoring state at any instruction boundary; (3) tracking instruction status; (4) checkpointing instructions; (5) creating, maintaining, and using a time-out checkpoint; (6) tracking floating-point exceptions; (7) creating, maintaining, and using a watchpoint for plural, simultaneous, unresolved-branch evaluation; and (9) increasing processor throughput while maintaining precise state. In one embodiment of the invention, a method of restoring machine state in a processor at any instruction boundary is disclosed. For any instruction which may modify control registers, the processor is either synchronized prior to execution or an instruction checkpoint is stored to preserve state; and for any instruction that creates a program counter discontinuity an instruction checkpoint is stored.
