The second emission is output from the cavity to provide ambient light.
Abstract: A conduit carrying gaseous matter has a device inside it forming a low-lying sump for separating and collecting non-gaseous matter. The device fits within a flexible section of the conduit and includes a barrier plate oriented generally horizontally to longitudinally divide a length of the conduit into a gas-carrying passageway (above the barrier plate and a sump (below the barrier plate, a spacer extending from a lower surface of the barrier plate, and first and second frame members extending from an upper surface of the barrier plate at spaced-apart locations. The spacer and the frame member contact inner surfaces of the conduit to positively position the barrier plate within the conduit, and the frame members are oriented obliquely to one another to urge the flexible section of the conduit into a bent shape having a lowest portion defining the sump.

Abstract: A vehicle and a method for controlling regenerative braking may utilize the maximum available regenerative braking torque for some time during a braking event. As the vehicle speed and/or powertrain torque decreases, the regenerative braking torque is controlled to deviate from the maximum. The point at which the regenerative braking torque deviates from the maximum is chosen based on the level of vehicle deceleration. The regenerative braking torque is then smoothly blended out until it reaches zero. The regenerative braking torque is brought to zero when the vehicle speed is very low, thereby eliminating the inefficiencies associated with operating a motor at a very low speed.
Abstract: A seatbelt assembly includes a seatbelt buckle that is disposed along a retractable belt webbing and configured for tethered movement about a vehicle interior. The seatbelt buckle includes a housing which contains a latch mechanism which releasably latches a seatbelt tongue to the seatbelt buckle. The housing further includes one or more light sources powered through the belt webbing or through a power cell in the housing which are used to illuminate the vehicle interior as tethered to the vehicle on the belt webbing and which are further used to facilitate a vehicle occupant in locating the seatbelt tongue when fastening the seatbelt assembly.

Abstract: A transmission shift is timed for a hybrid electric powertrain as a function of a torque capacity of an electric machine relative to a shifting torque required to change gearings of a transmission. A vehicle is being propelled by the machine, with an engine stopped, when the shift is requested. If the machine has insufficient torque capacity to change transmission gearings, then the shift request is delayed until the engine has started.

Abstract: A method of downshifting an automotive transmission. An on-coming transmission element is stroked while pressure for an off-going element is reduced. Pressure for the stroked on-coming element is increased to be sufficient to carry torque. Pressure for the off-going element is reduced below a torque transmitting amount once the stroked on-coming element has a sufficient torque carrying capacity. Torque capacities for the elements are determined from transmission output torque and acceleration and transmission input torque and acceleration. Feed forward or feedback terms for off-going and on-coming element torque capacities may be calculated using the transmission output torque, transmission input acceleration, and transmission input torque.
