Abstract: N-substituted amides or optionally N-substituted hydrazides of 4-amino-naphthalic acids which may be substituted in 3-position by a sulfo group are obtained by reacting 4-halo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride with a primary amine or an optionally N-substituted hydrazine having a pK.sub.a -value of at least 8, exchanging in the so-obtained 4-halo-naphthalimide the halogen for the amino group by reacting it with ammonia and, optionally, subsequent sulfonation. The products are dyeing matters useful for the coloration of synthetic fibers, plastics, oils, waxes, resins, paper, printing pastes, lacquers or natural polyamides, especially for daylight-fluorescence pigments.
Abstract: Monomeric matter is removed from an aqueous dispersion of a polymer containing at least 50 weight % of polymerized vinyl chloride. To this end, the dispersion is introduced into the upper portion of a column provided with sieve plates and contacted therein for 10 seconds up to 20 minutes, under 600 up to 1200 mm Hg, with hot steam at 100.degree. up to 150.degree. C. flowing countercurrently with respect to the dispersion. The polymer dispersion so treated is removed from the column base portion; and a vaporous matter mixture issuing at the head of the column is condensed stagewise so as to recover an aqueous phase and the monomeric matter.

Abstract: The N-acetoacetylamino compounds of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-chloro-aniline, 2,4-dimethyl-aniline and 2-methyl-5-chloroaniline are obtained in a good yield and excellent purity, if the above-mentioned anilines are reacted with diketene in an inert organic solvent or diluent in the presence of from 0.1 to 6%, calculated on the weight of the aniline, of water, while adding catalytic amounts of acid. An industrial aniline quality is preferably dried by heating it with a solvent forming with water an azeotropic mixture, and thereafter the amount of water required is added. The products may be used without purification as coupling components for the preparation of pigments.
