Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to techniques for selecting a subset of a set of simulated samples. A computer-program product including instructions to cause a computing device to order a plurality of UPDFs by UPDF value, wherein the plurality of UPDFs is associated with a chain of draws of a set of simulated samples, wherein each draw comprises multiple parameters and the UPDF values map to parameter values of the parameters; select a subset of the plurality of UPDFs based on the subset of the plurality of UPDFs having UPDF values within a range corresponding to a range of parameter values to include in a subset of the set of simulated samples; and transmit an indication of a draw comprising parameters having parameter values to include in the subset of the set of simulated samples, wherein the indication identifies the draw by associated UPDF. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Methods and compositions are provided for diagnosing ovarian cancer in a mammalian subject, preferably in a serum or plasma sample of a human subject. The methods and compositions enable the detection or measurement in the sample or from a protein level profile generated from the sample, the protein level of one or more specified biomarkers. Comparing the protein level(s) of the biomarker(s) in the subject's sample or from protein abundance profile of multiple biomarkers, with the level of the same biomarker(s) or profile in a reference standard, permits the determination of a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, or the identification of a risk of developing ovarian cancer, or enables the monitoring of the status of progression or remission of ovarian cancer in the subject followed during a therapeutic protocol.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of separating carbohydrate, including: mixing formic acid with heteropoly acid, chloride or bromide of lithium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, or iron, or combinations thereof to form a mixing liquid. The method also includes dissolving a cellulose biomass by the mixing liquid to form a solution, mixing water and the solution to hydrolyze the cellulose biomass for forming a carbohydrate solution, and mixing an extractant and the carbohydrate solution to extract the formic acid out of the carbohydrate solution. The heteropoly acid, the chloride or bromide of lithium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, or iron, or combinations thereof in the carbohydrate solution is separated out of the carbohydrate solution by ion exclusion chromatography separation to obtain a carbohydrate.

Abstract: An apparatus for preventing unwanted opening of a locked enclosure. The enclosure includes a lock, a door and a door bolt. The door is openable when the door bolt is retracted from a structure surrounding the enclosure. The apparatus includes a frangible guard plate, and an arm coupled to the guard plate by a spring. The arm is maintained in a first position under a bias of the spring. When the guard plate is fractured, the arm is free to move from the first position into a second position. The arm is positioned to engage the door bolt in the second position, thereby preventing retraction of the door bolt.

Abstract: In an abnormal driving behavior detection system for a vehicle, an obtainer repeatedly obtains an observed value indicative of at least one of a running condition of the vehicle and a driver's driving operation of the vehicle. A mode-probability calculator calculates, each time an observed value is obtained at a given obtaining timing as a target obtained value, a mode probability for each of driving modes as a function of one or more previous observed values. A deviation calculator obtains a predicted observed value for each driving mode using a driver's normal behavior model defined therefor, and calculates a deviation of the target observed value from the predicted observed value for each driving mode. An abnormality determiner determines whether there is at least one driver's abnormal behavior based on the mode probability for each driving mode and the deviation calculated for each driving mode.

Abstract: A method of providing exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to an air-boosted internal combustion engine. The engine has both a high pressure EGR loop and a low pressure EGR loop. Each EGR loop has a valve that controls the amount of EGR that is delivered to the engine intake from that loop. During low-speed engine conditions, more EGR is delivered to the engine intake from the low pressure EGR loop than from the high pressure EGR loop. During high-speed engine conditions, more EGR is delivered to the engine intake from the high pressure EGR loop than from the low pressure EGR loop.
