Abstract: Porous cross-linked polyimide-urea networks are provided. The networks comprise a subunit comprising two anhydride end-capped polyamic acid oligomers in direct connection via a urea linkage. The oligomers (a) each comprise a repeating unit of a dianhydride and a diamine and a terminal anhydride group and (b) are formulated with 2 to 15 of the repeating units. The subunit was formed by reaction of the diamine and a diisocyanate to form a diamine-urea linkage-diamine group, followed by reaction of the diamine-urea linkage-diamine group with the dianhydride and the diamine to form the subunit. The subunit has been cross-linked via a cross-linking agent, comprising three or more amine groups, at a balanced stoichiometry of the amine groups to the terminal anhydride groups. The subunit has been chemically imidized to yield the porous cross-linked polyimide-urea network. Also provided are wet gels, aerogels, and thin films comprising the networks, and methods of making the networks.

  • Publication number: 20140264030
Abstract: A chip-scale, air-clad semiconductor pedestal waveguide can be used as a mid-infrared (mid-IR) sensor capable of in situ monitoring of organic solvents and other analytes. The sensor uses evanescent coupling from a silicon or germanium waveguide, which is highly transparent in the mid-IR portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (e.g., between ?=1.3 ?m and ?=6.5 ?m for silicon and ?=1.3 ?m and ?=12.0 ?m for germanium), to probe the absorption spectrum of the fluid surrounding the waveguide. Launching a mid-IR beam into the waveguide exposed to a particular analyte causes attenuation of the evanescent wave's spectral components due to absorption by carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and/or nitrogen bonds in the surrounding fluid. Detecting these changes at the waveguide's output provides an indication of the type and concentration of one or more compounds in the surrounding fluid.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of providing proximity service communication between terminals. In accordance with an embodiment, a first terminal makes connection to a second terminal with network assistance. The first terminal requests information required to search for the second terminal from a network management server. The network management server determines a communication mode for proximity service communication. The network management server transmits a request message requesting communication between the first terminal and the second terminal in the communication mode to the first and second terminals. In accordance with another embodiment, a first terminal may switch its proximity service communication technology for better QoS without network assistance. The first terminal monitors link status. If the link status is deteriorated, the first terminal requests a second terminal to change proximity service communication technology.
