Abstract: An automatic detecting device of land pre-pits signal is disclosed. The device adjusts gain of push-pull signals to raise the signal to noise ratio of the land pre-pits signal to the wobble signal. Digital logic computation is also utilized to recognize the practical position of the land pre-pits. The level automatic detection of the RC circuit and the fixed slice level compose an automatic slice level, which is the basis for detecting the land pre-pits. The disclosed device eliminates the drawback of not easy to obtain correct land pre-pits signal from written disks by the conventional of fixed land pre-pits slice level technology.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for accelerated handwritten symbol recognition in a pen based tablet computer. In one embodiment, handwritten symbols are translated into machine readable characters using special purpose hardware. In one embodiment, the special purpose hardware is a recognition processing unit (RPU) which performs feature extraction and recognition. A user inputs the handwritten symbols and software recognition engine preprocesses the input to a reduced form. The data from the preprocessor is sent to the RPU which performs feature extraction and recognition. In one embodiment, the RPU has memory and the RPU operates on data in its memory. In one embodiment, the RPU uses a hidden Markov model (HMM) as a finite state machine that assigns probabilities to a symbol state based on the preprocessed data from the handwritten symbol. In another embodiment, the RPU recognizes collections of symbols, termed “wordlets,” in addition to individual symbols.
Abstract: A method for improving performance of an engine comprising contacting contaminated liquid hydrocarbon fuel comprising an initial concentration of DRA with one or more effective DRA removal agent under conditions effective to produce decontaminated liquid hydrocarbon fuel comprising a reduced concentration of the DRA, and feeding the decontaminated liquid hydrocarbon fuel to the engine.
Abstract: A heat exchange structure includes at least three wave-shaped non-woven cloth layers. Each wave-shaped non-woven cloth layer has a plurality of crest tops and trough bottoms. Adjacent wave-shaped non-woven cloth layers are interconnected at intersections of crest tops and trough bottoms thereof. Each wave-shaped non-woven cloth layer forms a unique flow channel. When a cool airflow and a hot airflow are respectively introduced into flow channels formed by adjacent wave-shaped non-woven cloth layers, a heat exchange is executed at the wave-shaped non-woven cloth layer between the cool airflow and the hot airflow.
Abstract: A method for distillation of sulfur for preparing radioactive phosphorous nuclide includes the steps of: charging powdered sulfur into a target tube designed to have an upper and a bottom neck; degassing the target tube to form a vacuum therein, followed by heating the upper neck to seal the target tube; irradiating neutrons into the sealed target tube to produce radioactive phosphorous nuclide; heating the distillation zone to distill the remaining unreacted sulfur; and cleaving the target tube at the bottom neck to separate the distillation and the cooling zone from each other, the separated zones containing the radioactive phosphorous nuclide and the unreacted sulfur, respectively, whereby the radioactive phosphorous nuclide of high purity can be prepared while the sulfur can be recovered at high efficiency.

Abstract: A roadside-based communication system providing backup communication between emergency mobile units and emergency command centers. In the event of failure of a primary communication, the mobile units transmit wireless messages to nearby roadside controllers that may take the form of intersection controllers. The intersection controllers receive the wireless messages, convert the messages into standard digital streams, and transmit the digital streams along a citywide network to a destination intersection or command center.
Abstract: This disclosure provides a system for creating cloned cells and embryos that are genetically modified. Cells are treated to increase expression of telomerase and potentially extend replicative capacity. One or more genetic modifications is made to inactivate a gene or confer desirable features, growing and selecting the cells as needed. The modified nucleus can then be transferred to a suitable recipient cell, which can then be used to grow an embryo with the conferred attributes. This technology makes it possible to create embryos, animals and embryonic cell lines with multiple genetic modifications, including homozygously inactivated genes and gene substitutions.
