  • Patent number: 4506370
Abstract: An arc furnace installation wherein the arc furnace is air-tightly enclosed with a shroud and a scrap preheating chamber moves into or out of the shroud in such a way that the preheating chamber may be selectively brought to a position immediately above the arc furnace, a scrap preheating position spaced apart from the arc furnace by a predetermined distance and a scrap charging position outside of the shroud. The number of openings of the shroud may be reduced to a minimum and consequently the total area of the openings may be minimized.

  • Patent number: 4488500
Abstract: In a ship for carrying a low temperature liquid storage tank which is supported on the bottom of a ship's hold by especially horizontal displacement preventive tank supporting structures, a leaked liquid receiving pan is disposed below an engaging member which is extended downwardly from the bottom of the tank. The low temperature liquid leaked from the tank and falling between the engaging member and a heat insulating layer surrounding the tank is received by the leaked liquid receiving pan and does not reach the bottom of the ship's hold, whereby the bottom of the hold is prevented from being cooled.

  • Patent number: 4478801
Abstract: A process for purifying exhaust gases is disclosed. Exhaust gases discharged when coal or petroleum is burned are forced to pass through reaction media consisting of molten salts whose major component is a hydrogensulfate or hydrogensulfates, whereby desulfurization and denitration can be effected by one step. Harmful compounds such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and dust particles in the exhaust gases can be efficiently removed and the purified gases can be smoothly diffused.

  • Patent number: 4458515
Abstract: In a sheet rolling mill having work rolls and backup rolls, rolling of flat sheets is facilitated by controlling constant the transverse rigidity or deflection in the direction of width of rolls. The rolling force is detected, and based on the rolling force thus detected, the value for correcting the crown of the work roll is calculated by a transverse rigidity coefficient and a function determined by sheet thickness to control the transverse rigidity.

  • Patent number: 4453837
Abstract: In a thrust bearing for a turbocharger of the type having a thrust metal formed with a lubricating oil passage in communication with a lubricating oil feed port, a thrust bushing and an oil thrower, the inner peripheral wall of the thrust metal is formed with an annular oil reservoir and a single or plural small-diameter holes are axially extended through the wall of the thrust metal so as to intercommunicate between the oil reservoir and the outer peripheral wall of the thrust metal, that is, the thrust load carrying surface, whereby a sufficient quantity of lubricating oil can issue through such small-diameter holes to the load bearing surface. Because of this arrangement, the overall lubricating oil required may be reduced yet reliable and dependable operation can be ensured. In addition, the thrust load carrying capacity can be remarkably increased.

  • Patent number: 4407652
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for calcining raw materials in the form of powder or particles. The gases entrain the particles to spiral upward in the calcining furnace. In an upper throttle chamber the relatively coarse particles which have not been completely calcined are separated from the gas flow and returned into the calcining zone to be calcined again. This pattern of material flow is repeated several times. The calcining efficiency can be improved, so that the furnace can be made small in size. The uniformly calcined particles are discharged from the top of the furnace and introduced into one or more cyclone separators through an outlet duct including a 180.degree. bend section.
