Abstract: In the electrolysis of an alkali metal chloride in an ion exchange membrane type electrolysis cell the dilute caustic alkali solution produced in the cathode compartment is concentrated in a series of heating and evaporating operations wherein it is heated by heat exchange with the hot dilute metal chloride solution removed from the anode compartment. The caustic alkali solution and metal chloride solutions flow countercurrently through the heat exchange steps of the concentrating operations.

Abstract: A valve is disclosed wherein a valve member is disposed in the chamber of a valve body in such a way that the valve member is axially displaceable so as to open or close the valve, and a pilot cylinder is provided in order to encounter the unbalanced force acting on the valve member due to the difference in pressure between the primary and secondary sides of the valve. When the valve is wide opened, the liquid flows at the same speed, and the pressure loss is reduced to such an extent as almost equal to the pressure loss of a gate valve in wide opened position.

Abstract: Disclosed is a furnace whose NOx emission may be reduced to a minimum degree so far unattainable in any prior art furnaces by optimumly controlling the ratio of exhaust gas mixed with the combustion air to be supplied to the burners to the exhaust gas to be mixed with the two-stage combustion air which is admitted through air nozzles into the combustion chamber and also by optimumly controlling the distribution of the two-stage combustion air in the combustion chamber depending upon the operating conditions. The present invention may be applied to any types of furnaces.
Abstract: Extensive improvements in the production capability of the existing installations of the type comprising a rotary kiln and a suspension preheater unit are disclosed; that is, another suspension preheater unit provided with a calciner at its lowermost heat transfer stage and a distributor to direct a part of the preheated raw materials from the existing preheater to the calciner are installed, and all the raw materials supplied to two preheater units are uniformly and highly calcined ahead of the kiln in the preheaters by control of the distributor as well as the fuel rate to the calciner, thereby the production capacity of the kiln is doubled. Furthermore the accumulation of raw materials on the bottom of the calciner can be substantially eliminated and the specific power consumption of the installations may be reduced.
Abstract: A climbing device for a climbing crane wherein two upper supporting arms are supported vertically movably by a main cylinder having its upper end pivoted to the upper portion of a guide frame which in turn is intrusively attached to a mast, and two lower supporting arms are supported by the lower portion of the guide frame whereby climbing or descending is carried out by effectively taking advantage of the upper and lower supporting arms.
Abstract: Disclosed is a concentration difference energy operated power plant comprising an aqueous solution tank containing an aqueous solution of slats, a pure water boiler disposed within the tank and completely immersed in the aqueous solution therein, preheater means for preheating the aqueous solution in the tank to a temperature very close to the boiling temperature thereof, and a steam engine which is operated by the steam generated in the pure water boiler, the steam discharged from the steam engine being injected through nozzles into the aqueous solution in the tank, dissipating the latent heat to the aqueous solution. Also disclosed is the compositions of the aqueous solutions used in conjunction with the above power plant.
Abstract: Disclosed is a furnace wall structure which is placed in opposed relation with electrodes of a electric arc furnace and is made of copper or copper alloy in order to ensure a long service life, improved safety and a minimum thermal loss and in which a front plate which defines a heat-receiving surface exposed within the furnace is cooled by the forced circulation of cooling water.
Abstract: Disclosed is a rotary burner of the type wherein the liquid fuel (to be referred to as "the oil" hereinafter in the specification) is atomized by uniform and stable ultrasonic waves and the oil particles are prevented from being sprayed outwardly so that the non-uniform distribution of concentrations of oil particles results, whereby the uniform combustion may be ensured.
Abstract: Both of the upper and lower blades carried by the upper and lower drums, respectively, or either of the upper or lower blade is so arranged as to partially describe a non-circular locus having the vertically extended major axis when complete shearing is effected.
Abstract: Molten slag is impinged against a target, for instance a rotary drum, gets itself granulated as it rebounces on the target surface, and is charged into a fluidized bed consisting of solid particles and gas so that slag granules may be quickly cooled without damaging the shape.

Abstract: Disclosed is a pinch roll stand for use in a multi-strand continuous casting machine having a plurality of driving multi-pinch-roll assemblies each of which consists of a plurality of pinch rolls coaxially arranged in a hollow part of hollow pinch roll so that the pinch rolls may be driven independently of each other.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a full-automatic flash welding apparatus wherein the trailing edge of the preceding strip and the leading edge of the succeeding strip are automatically accurately positioned, rigidly clamped and simultaneously cut off, the new trailing and leading edges are automatically machined and then butt welded, and thereafter the flash on the upper and lower surfaces of the joined strips is automatically removed.
Abstract: An improvement of a swirl type fuel atomizer is disclosed in which a plurality of projections, grooves or recesses are equiangularly formed around an opening of a single-nozzle hole so that the liquid fuel injected may be divided into a plurality of fuel spray patterns. The complete combustion with a relatively low temperature may be ensured so that the emission of nitrogen oxides may be substantially eliminated or reduced.
Abstract: The combustion air, which is induced into a calcining furnace (calciner) from the lower end thereof and is vigorously swirled upward along the furnace wall, is burned by a plurality of burners and the negative pressure region may be developed at the center portion of the furnace. The exhaust gases leaving a rotary kiln, in which the calcined raw materials are burned to clinker, are led upwardly from the center of the furnace bottom into the said negative region and mixed with combustion gases. The raw material particles may be fed directly into the said negative region or to kiln exhaust gases so as to be entrained into the said region.
Abstract: Disclosed is a rolling cut type shear wherein a downwardly curved upper blade is moved in such a way that the midpoint thereof in the longitudinal direction passes a cycloidal path, whereby the slip of the upper blade relative to a steel plate to be cut may be prevented.
Abstract: Almost all of the powder materials, after having been calcined in a calcining furnace, are treated by the high temperature kiln exhaust without being directly fed into a rotary kiln, so that the materials may pass through at least two calcining zones in series so that they are calcined perfectly and uniformly before they are fed into the kiln, thereby contributing to make compact a rotary kiln in size and to improve overall thermal efficiency of the calcining and burning (sintering) apparatus.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a device for gripping and lifting large-sized T-shaped structural members (to be referred to as the "T structural member" for brevity in this specification) each consisting of a face plate and a web plate. The T structural member gripping and lifting device comprises a beam adapted to be suspended from a crane or the like, a plurality of trolleys movably mounted on the beam and remotely controlled so as to adjust the spacing therebetween, a gripping unit suspended from each trolley and remotely controllable so as to grip or release the face plate of a T structural member, and a remote control unit for controlling the trolleys and the gripping units whereby the T structural member may be automatically gripped, lifted and released. Handling efficiency may be considerably increased to such an extent hitherto unattainable by any conventional devices, and the safeguarded operations may be ensured.
