Abstract: A turbine casing for turbochargers adapted for use with reciprocating internal combustion engines, in which in response to the flow rate of the exhaust gases from an engine, the exhaust gases are directed to flow through a first or radially inward scroll divided into two or more exhaust gas passages in the axial direction of a turbine wheel or through said first or radially inward scroll and a second or radially outward scroll, whereby regardless of the variations in flow rate an optimum supercharging efficiency can be maintained over the whole region of operating conditions of the engine.

Abstract: A winding machine for winding a strip in which a plurality of wrapper rolls disposed around a mandrel are adapted to be retracted away from the mandrel whenever the stepped portion of the strip passes them in response to the control signal generated at the time when the stepped portion passes each wrapper roll, the time being calculated automatically from the time when the stepped portion passes a specified wrapper roll.
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing granules from slags produced in metallurgical furnaces such as blast furnaces, converter furnaces, electric furnaces, reverberatory furnaces comprising means for accelerating a stream of molten slag from a container to a velocity of at least two meters per second, and directing the stream onto a target surface from which it rebounds in the form of an inverted cone of droplets which are projected through the air to cool and to solidify them into granules.

Abstract: Cooling water is sprayed under a predetermined pressure range and at a predetermined discharge rate over the both surfaces of a sheet to be treated which is reciprocated lengthwise at such a velocity that the product of the reciprocating velocity and thickness of the sheet may be maintained within a predetermined range. The spraying direction of each spray nozzle is individually controlled so that any water remaining over the surface of the sheet may be expelled out. The method and apparatus is especially adapted for use in the normalizing process and in the process for cooling hot-rolled sheet steel.

Abstract: In a TIG welding process with controlled welding current pulses, DC current pulses with the frequency set at from tens to hundreds Hz (most preferably from 30 to 300 Hz) are fed to an electrode and current pulses are also fed to a filler wire so that an arc is caused to swing, whereby a large pool of molten metal can be maintained in a positive and stable manner due to the high arc pressure obtained when the welding current pulses at from tens to hundreds Hz is used.
Abstract: A rolling process wherein a pair of working rolls are driven at different peripheral velocities so that the peripheral velocity ratio may be varied, and the peripheral velocity ratio is so controlled that the rolling torque of each of the working rolls may be within a maximum tolerable torque which the working roll may transmit, thereby reducing the rolling force.
Abstract: A reduction process and apparatus wherein the flow of the reducing fluid through the fixed bed of iron ore, oxidized pellet or the like to be reduced is reversed in direction so that the iron ore, oxidized pellet or the like, at any place in the bed, may be reduced uniformly.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing granules from slags produced in metallurgical furnaces such as blast furnaces, converter furnaces, electric furnaces and reverberatory furnaces. A molten slag stream from a container at a velocity of at least two meters per second is impinged upon a non-wetting target surface, from which the stream rebounds in a film of projected droplets having the shape of an inverted cone. Cooling and solidifying the droplets by their projected flight in air forms solid granules.

Abstract: A shearing device wherein a shear main body including an upper and a lower blades one of which is moved toward or away from the other for shearing an ingot is provided with an eccentric so that when the shear main body swings in synchronism with an ingot to be cut which is continuously moving, the upper and lower blades may be moved substantially horizontally in the direction of the passage of the ingot especially when the shearing of the ingot occurs, thereby preventing the "nose bending" of the ingot. A plurality of upper and lower blades are provided for shearing a plurality of ingots in side-by-side relationship wherein the drive mechanism for each upper and lower blade pair includes a plurality of hydraulic cylinders aligned in the direction of ingot movement in order to reduce spacing between ingots.
Abstract: A cyclone type particle separator comprising a lower cone with a particle outlet, an intermediate cylinder and an upper truncated cone. An inlet is opened at the intermediate cylinder tangentially or involutedly thereof and adjacent to the upper end of the lower cone so that the particle-laden gas can freely spiral upward in the intermediate cylinder and the upper truncated cone while the particles separated drop into the lower cone. The top wall of the upper truncated cone is spaced apart from the inlet by a suitable distance, and upper particle trapping chambers are extended tangentially and outwardly from the upper truncated cone and is contiguous with the top wall so that the particles separated in the upper truncated cone adjacent to the top wall thereof can be trapped and collected in the upper trapping chambers.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for compensating for local temperature difference of a steel product which has been previously heated above room temperature because of the preceding operation such as rolling and which is to be heat-treated. Upper, lower and edge burners are arranged in opposed relationship with a path of travel and are selectively ignited depending upon the surface temperature distribution of the steel product detected before it enters the apparatus, in such a way that the steel product is heated uniformly to a desired temperature.
Abstract: A combustion furnace or reactor with a multi-stage fluidized bed system wherein upper and lower fluidized bed formation zones in which the fluidized beds of bed particles containing particles of lime stone are separated through a partition device. The partition device is provided with a plurality of exhaust gas distribution holes for distributing the exhaust gases produced in the lower fluidized bed into the upper fluidized bed and a plurality of nozzles through which issue the combustion air and/or recirculated exhaust gases into the upper fluidized bed. Combustion products such as NO.sub.x and SO.sub.x are desulfurized and denitrified respectively within the reactor by calcium compounds which absorb SO.sub.2 and act as catalysts for reducing NO.sub.x.
Abstract: A process and system for recovering the top gas from a blast furnace into a gas holder without discharging the top gas into the surrounding atmosphere so as to be utilized for various purposes, thereby overcoming the environmental pollution problems and attaining the energy saving.
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for detecting the relative position or displacement between two movable bodies, wherein a reader or sensor mounted on one of the two bodies reads a code pattern on the other body. A code pattern is provided that represents a binary-coded base-n number, each digit of a base-n number being represented by each of first, second, third, . . . , and m-th unit-distance codes (where m being the least submultiple except 1 of the base-n number system), these codes in turn being converted into a common binary code so that the relative position or displacement between the two bodies may be represented by the binary-coded base-n number.
