  • Patent number: 4225560
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, the oxygen gas is introduced into a horizontal, unitary and totally-closed furnace shell, and nuclear fuel to be reprocessed is charged onto an oxidation and separation plate which is horizontally disposed for vibration within the furnace shell along the axis, so that the nuclear fuel may be reprocessed by oxidation in the oxygen atmosphere while the fuel is vibrated and transported on the oxidation and separation plate and the reprocessed nuclear fuel in the form of particles may be discharged. At the same time released volatile fission products from the pulverized fuel are isolated by means of a vacuum blower. According to another embodiment of the present invention, a reduction furnace which is substantially similar in construction to the oxidation furnace described above except that a reducing gas is supplied by an independent source.

  • Patent number: 4223593
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydraulic motor with a nutating member. The nutating member mounted for nutation on a spherical surface bearing which in turn is mounted on a casing, has first and second bevel gears on respective end faces thereof, the first bevel gear on one end face being in mesh with a bevel gear rigidly mounted on the casing while the second bevel gear on the other end face being in mesh with a bevel gear carried rigidly by a shaft. A swash plate mounted on the casing for coaxial rotation with the shaft has an inclined end face against which said one end face of the nutating member is made to contact and being pressed thereagainst under the forces of pistons so that the swash plate with the inclined end face is caused to rotate, whereby the nutating member is made to nutate. Such nutation of the nutating member due to extension and retraction of the pistons under hydraulic pressure in a predetermined sequence results in the rotation of the shaft or the casing with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 4197137
Abstract: Process and apparatus for calcining finely divided cement raw materials including finely divided combustible materials in a suspension preheater with a calcining furnace. Finely divided calcareous materials are directly charged into the suspension preheater while finely divided argillaceous materials, including combustibles such as oil shale, are charged into a bypass duct for bypassing part of the high temperature gases in the suspension preheater to a calcining zone or calcining furnace. The raw materials charged into the bypass duct are subjected to thermal decomposition, resulting in solids and combustible gases. The combustible gases are separated from the solids and are charged into the calcining zone or calcining furnace while the separated solids are charged into the suspension preheater, mixed with the finely divided calcareous materials, preheated and calcined.
