  • Patent number: 5352088
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for pump housings for centrifugal pumps for pumping of polluted liquids. In order to decrease the influence of radial force acting upon the impeller during operation, a partition wall (5) is arranged along a part of the turn in that part of the spiral formed pump housing that has the biggest diameter. In order to decrease the risk that pollutions will stick to the wall (5), it is split up into two parts (6) and (7) with an intermediate, longitudinal slot (10). The leading edges of said parts (6) and (7) are swept backwards into the slot (10).

  • Patent number: 5349316
Abstract: A two port dual bandpass microwave filter consisting of "n" resonant cavities. Each cavity resonates in two independent modes at displaced frequencies so that the filter has two passbands in a desired frequency band. By orienting an incoming waveguide at an angle with respect to the filter, both TE and TM modes can be excited to produce two separate passbands. The passbands may have either equal or unequal characteristics. Fine tuning of the TE and TM modes is accomplished using tuning plungers or tuning screws. The dual bandpass response of the new filter is achieved by utilizing the TE.sub.1,1,1 and TM.sub.0,1,0 modes in right circular cylindrical cavities, or equivalent modes in rectangular, or other cavities. These modes are orthogonal so they do not couple to each other. The cavity loaded Qs are independently adjustable, so the two passbands can have the same or different bandwidths, the same or different amplitude ripples and the same or different phase responses.

  • Patent number: 5349177
Abstract: An image intensifier tube that utilizes a photoresponsive layer for producing electrons in response to received radiation, a solid state electron amplifier for multiplying the electrons produced by the photoresponsive layer, a cold cathode for emitting electrons into vacuum, and a phosphor screen for converting impinging electrons into a visible image. The solid state electron amplifier is formed as a semiconductive layer interposed in between a photoresponse layer and a negative electron affinity layer on the photocathode. The solid state electron amplifier receives the electrons produced by the photoresponsive layer, multiplies the electrons and directs the electrons to the negative electron affinity layer. The negative electron affinity layer then directs the electrons through a vacuum to the phosphor screen producing a viewed image.

  • Patent number: 5347397
Abstract: An optical device for reorienting an optical image from a first optical pathway to a second optical pathway and the method of manufacturing such an optical device. In a preferred embodiment, a housing is provided that defines at least two optical pathways. Both optical pathways align with a common aperture in the housing. Since both optical pathways are generally cylindrically shaped and the common aperture aligns with both optical pathways, the common aperture is elliptical in shape so as to correspond to the plane of intersection between the two cylindrical pathways. A generally rectangular mirror, that is larger than the elliptical aperture in the housing, is placed over the aperture on the exterior of the housing. As a result, the mirror covers the area of the elliptical aperture and redirects any light passing through the elliptical aperture from one of the optical pathways into the other optical pathway.

  • Patent number: 5339385
Abstract: A speaker verification system which accepts or rejects the claimed identity of an individual based on analysis and measurements of the speaker's utterances. The utterances are elicited by prompting the individual seeking identification to read test phrases chosen at random by the verification system composed of words from a small vocabulary. Nearest-neighbor distances between speech frames derived from such spoken test phrases and speech frames of corresponding vocabulary "words" from previously stored utterances of the speaker seeking identification are computed along with distances between such spoken test phrases and corresponding vocabulary words for a set of reference speakers. The claim for identification is accepted or rejected based on the relationship among such distances and a predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 5338950
Abstract: A capacitor element for an integrated circuit comprises a thin layer of dielectric material laminarly disposed between first and second layers of electrically conductive material. Each of the layers has n sides, where n is an even intergergreater than four. Preferably, each layer of the capacitor, and therefore the capacitor itself, is shaped as an equiangular polygon. Although, the capacitor may be configured as a hexagon, a decagon, etc., an octagonal configuration is preferred. By eliminating the 90 feed bend, substantial reductions in discontinuity reactances are obtained. The capacitor element may be provided as an element of a hybrid or a monolithic circuit. When the capacitor element is employed as an element of a microwave circuit, the first conductive layer is deposited on a substrate of a semi-insulating material such as gallium arsenide.

  • Patent number: 5335983
Abstract: The invention is related to a hydraulic unit for hydraulic control and regulation of apparatuses, in particular for brake pressure control apparatuses in anti-lock control systems or for traction slip control systems for automotive vehicles. In order to effectively reduce both the noise level depending on the switching positions of the solenoid valves and its diffusion, the invention is based on the concept that while the outlet solenoid valve is open to limit the volume of pressure agent being taken in from the pressure agent source and flowing to the pressure agent consumer through a slide valve which is integrated into the valve accommodation body, a control edge being active at the slide valve reduces the pressure agent flow due to the lifting stroke motion which is dependent on the pressure differential.
