    Abstract: A method and apparatus for noise suppression for speech recognition systems which employs the principle of a least means square estimation which is implemented with conditional expected values. Essentially, according to this method, one computes a series of optimal estimators which estimators and their variances are then employed to implement a noise immune metric. This noise immune metric enables the system to substitute a noisy distance with an expected value which value is calculated according to combined speech and noise data which occurs in the bandpass filter domain. Thus the system can be used with any set of speech parameters and is relatively independent of a specific speech recognition apparatus structure.

    Abstract: An automatic speech recognition system employs parallel syntaxes with a first syntax operative to compare keyword templates with incoming speech over a given time interval and with a second syntax in parallel with the first and operative to compare filler templates with incoming speech over the same interval. Based on the best comparisons in each syntax a likelihood probability ratio is computed and compared against a selected threshold for determining whether the speech contains a valid phrase or keyword as compared to an undesirable utterance.

    Abstract: A credit card type small thin rectangular IC card has a battery and an IC comprising a CPU, a ROM and a RAM mounted on a flexible printed circuit and bonded within an insulative plastic material. The printed circuit of the card has a plurality of electrode terminals exposed in a parallel array along at least one edge of the card which are adapted to engage contacts of a mating socket. The printed circuit terminals are manufactured by coating copper, nickel and gold over polyamide resin and squeeze finishing the leading edge. The mating socket comprises a general U-shaped frame having a U-shaped channel adapted to receive the IC card and having internal recessed contacts adapted to engage the terminals of the IC card. The contacts extend from an exterior surface of the frame for interconnection with the circuits of a mating device. Downwardly projecting portions thereof are bent at least twice in the portion penetrating the bottom of the frame.

    Abstract: A parallel analog to digital converter and a method of processing at least two independnet signals therein are disclosed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The analog to digital converter has an improved sample and hold stage which, in addition to quantizing the analog signals, also multiplexes them. The sample and hold stage comprises at least two differential amplifier circuits, a latch stage, and a timing stage. Each differential amplifier circuit converts one analog input by comparing it to a reference voltage. The discrete output of the differential amplifier circuit is stored in the latch stage and outputted to an encoder. The timing circuit stage first selects one differential amplifier circuit to output its discrete signal, and then selects the latch stage to output its stored results. By sequencing through each differential amplifier circuit, the present invention effectively multiplexes the analog inputs.

Apparatus for performing high quality temperature detection and control is also provided.

    Abstract: An analog to digital converter for a speech signal is implemented in modules to allow for changes in bit rate and changes in bit stream length according to requirements of the digital transmission system. A pre-emphasis circuit provides an array of pre-emphasized speech samples which are stored in memory. A linear predictive coder provides an array of reflection coefficients and an array of filter coefficients. A pulse processor receives the speech samples and filter coefficients and generates speech amplitude and location signals. These signals are multiplied to generate quantized speech samples. The quantized speech samples and reflection coefficients are provided to a buffer which provides an output signal of a proper bit stream length and bit rate for the digital transmission system.

    Abstract: A structure associated with a ceramic envelope gas filled electron tube whereby a series of concentric holes are formed through grid radiator rings which thus simulates the outer neutral gas region of a typical glass envelope tube structure. In this manner, one has created a neutral non-ionized gas flow path which shunts the main discharge in such a thyratron and which is contained within the metal internal axial structure. The apertures, as formed in the grid radiator rings, thereby provide a source path for neutral molecular hydrogen from the gas reservoir located at the base of the tube to allow the gas to be directed to the anode/grid region of the tube, where electrons are pumped and the gas is collisionally ionized. The effect serves to enhance the maximum thyratron operating frequency by allowing cool neutral gas molecules to flow into the gap region through the parallel path and then into the discharge volume of the ceramic thyratron tube.

    Abstract: A fire isolation device having a valve designed to close after a given temperature has been reached by a fusible nose member in the form of a sleeve of fusible material. The device has a passageway therethrough and a self-closing valve member having a poppet and a seat disposed in the passageway with the poppet being biased toward the seat to a valve closed position. At least one aperture through the nose member provides for continuous fluid flow through the device around the poppet and the seat. The nose member is positioned to hold the valve in an open position against the bias on the poppet. The seat has a flow path on its outer end dimensioned to fit the nose member and a flow path towards its inner end larger in diameter than the nose member in an area occupied by the aperture to permit flow therethrough when the nose member holds the valve in an open position. The nose member is made of a material designed to melt in the neighborhood of 700.degree. F. when the fire isolation device is exposed to 2000.

    Abstract: A unitary assembly of tubing and an end fitting. The end fitting comprises a threaded fastener fitting having a tubular bore extending therethrough. An undercut annular groove is coaxially provided in the wall portion of the tubular bore which is spaced apart from the end of the fitting. The opening of the tubular bore at the end of the fitting is provided with an undercut counterbore. The end of the tubing is inserted through the opening and into the tubular bore until it engages a stop formed by a reduced diameter portion of the tubular bore at the axially inward end of the undercut annular groove. A ball mandrel is inserted through the opening at the other end of the tubular bore to engage and force the end portion of the tube into the undercut annular groove. A braze ring is inserted into the undercut counterbore the latter of which allows a braze fillet to form during the brazing operation.

Following the deposition of a metal layer of a metal forming a silicide in a thickness smaller than the thickness of the layer portion, and the heating for forming the silicide, the metal which has so far not reacted with the silicon, is removed by using an etching agent selectively dissolving the metal.

    Abstract: A windshield washing system for motor vehicles is described in which a non-return valve is installed into the feed pipe, which non-return valve, for ensuring a quick response from the washing system, prevents the feed pipe from emptying, while the pump is switched off. According to the invention a bypass switchable via a valve runs parallelly to this non-return valve, which bypass is opened in winter, i.e. in low outdoor temperatures, but is closed in summer. Consequently during winter mode of operation the feed pipe is emptied. Thus the washing liquid is prevented from freezing.

    Abstract: There is disclosed an interface apparatus which enables a radar jamming system to operate in conjunction with a number of different radar warning receivers. The interface enables the jamming apparatus to couple to various types of radar warning receivers and to specify proper blanking intervals for each of the receivers according to the type of blanking required and the operation of such receivers. The system employs a look-through blanking bus which essentially consists of six data lines and a strobe. The data on this bus is fully encoded to provide 64 individual command codes. The command codes are established by the particular RWR and are made available via the interface to the jamming system over a multiplexed bus. This bus operates to initially specify the RWR by determining the various codes which are transmitted by the RWR.

    Abstract: A quick connect connector is disclosed. The connector includes a connector housing having a first and a second ends. A first chamber is provided in the housing between the first and the second ends for receiving a sealing member therein. The radially deflectable retaining portion is adapted to engagingly contact a flange portion of a tubing member inserted in the housing to retain the tubing member in a locked position relative to and sealingly engaging the sealing member between the retaining portion and the first end of the housing. The locking portion is received within a groove of the housing to lock the collar to the housing and secure the connection. The tubing connector is resiliently urged out from the housing and against the engaged retaining portion of the housing.
