  • Patent number: 5967300
Abstract: A switch used with steering column assemblies includes a switch mechanism provided at the end of a switch lever. To provide a low-priced and reliable connection between the switch, mechanism and connector contacts in the housing of the steering column switch, a flexible conductor foil is used. The foil is not laid within the hollow interior of the switch lever. The switch lever is rather formed of two parts between which the conductor foil is guided. In advantageous embodiments, the contacts of the conductor foil are directly used as stationary switch contacts, the switch lever is manufactured by utilizing internal gas pressure, and the switching foil contacts are reinforced with contact plates.

  • Patent number: 5968105
Abstract: To determine the transverse acceleration of a vehicle, in particular as an input quantity for an electronic vehicle control system such as ABS, TCS, EBV, etc., the output signals of wheel sensors representative of the rotational behavior of the individual vehicle wheels are evaluated. The correction factors representing the differences of the tire tread circumferences of the individual wheels are determined. A short-time correction factor and a long-time correction factor KZ and LZ are produced in each case for the non-driven vehicle wheels. A difference between the long-time correction factor and the short-time correction factor of the respective wheel is determined and evaluated in a filtering and adapting circuit. The quotient KZ/LZ of the short-time correction factor and the long-time correction factor of the respective wheel is calculated, and the difference is produced between the quotients of the left and right non-driven ##EQU1## wheels. The transverse acceleration of the vehicle Q.sub.

  • Patent number: 5965239
Abstract: A casing for a drive unit has a casing base body which is sealed by means of a cover unit. The casing base body consists of plastic, while the cover is produced from metal. It is desirable to form the edge of the casing in such a manner that the cover is supported on the casing base body in a flat manner. Since, within molding technology, there are a few difficulties in forming a continuous edge, a number of elevations, which serve as a support surface for the cover, jut out onto the edge of the cover. By means of a finishing of the casting mold, it can be achieved, in a simple manner, that the sealing surfaces of the elevations come to lie in one plane. The sealing of the casing cover relative to the casing base body is carried out by way of a sealing unit which is supported on the edge of the casing and leaves the elevations free.

  • Patent number: 5960977
Abstract: A polymeric, multiple-layer tube suitable for use as a filler neck is disclosed. The tube is comprised of a generally cylindrical wall having an outer surface and an inner surface. The inner surface is approximately parallel to the outer surface and defines a generally cylindrical interior having a diameter D. The cylindrical interior, which provides a flow path for fuel, extends throughout the length of the tube. The tube is divided into one or more contiguous first and second longitudinal segments. In the first longitudinal segment, D is approximately constant along the length of the segment; in the second longitudinal segment, D varies with axial position. This variation defines a convolution, which allows the filler tube to be bent without crimping. The cylindrical wall of the multiple-layer tube further comprises an outer layer composed of a thermoplastic elastomer, and an inner layer composed of an extrudable melt-processible thermoplastic having an elongation of at least 150%.

  • Patent number: 5957724
Abstract: A coaxial connector is provided, of a type that has a front portion (12) where the inner conductor (14) forms a socket for receiving a pin (M) of predetermined diameter (A) (1 mm) and the outer conductor has a front end of predetermined outside diameter (B) (3.7 mm), which enables an increase in characteristic impedance at the front portion of the connector to more closely match the impedance of the middle portion (16) of the connector. A dielectric support (30) that positions the inner conductor within the over one, includes primarily air at the front portion, to increase the characteristic impedance of the front portion without changing its diameter. The insulative support preferably includes a middle portion (72) with ring-shaped locating portions (62, 64) that are closely received in the outer conductor, that closely surround the inner conductor, and that abut shoulders on the inner conductor to fix the position of the inner conductor in radial and axial directions.

  • Patent number: 5957245
Abstract: In order to realize a two-piston floating caliper disc brake with a wide caliper, the axially outer side of the caliper is supported by radially extending protrusions shaped on the outer brake shoe. While the two protrusions have the same depth, they differ in their width. Corresponding circular grooves within the caliper around recess openings on the opposite side of the brake cylinders, however, are identical. Therefore, a radial support of the brake caliper can be carried out by both protrusions while a tangential positioning of the caliper is limited to the wider one of the two protrusions.

  • Patent number: 5953916
Abstract: To ensure pressure compensation and the replenishment function of a master cylinder, the present invention discloses the provision of supply channels configured as slits (40). The slits (40) are adequate to ensure pressure compensation and the replenishment action when the brake system is bled. Due to their large cross-section, the slits permit a large fluid flow which is required, for example, to supply the pump in brake systems which independently initiate a braking operation.

  • Patent number: 5951063
Abstract: A retainer for releasably locking together the male and female component of a quick connector. The retainer is releasably insertible into a transverse bore in the female component and includes a surface slidable over a radial flange on the male component only when the male component is fully seated in an axial bore in the female component. The engagement of the surface and the radial flange on the male component permits full insertion of the retainer into the transverse bore in the female component and around the male component to lock the male and female components together. Lock projections on the retainer engage grooves in the housing to releasably lock the retainer in a partially inserted, shipping position in the transverse bore and engage exterior lock surfaces on the housing on full insertion of the retainer to prevent separation of the retainer from the female component.
