  • Patent number: 5947771
Abstract: The rear of a thin IC card is provided with a jack (42A, 42B, FIG. 4) that can receive a multi-contact audio type plug (40) having a diameter that is more than half the thickness of the card. The circuit board has a slot (60) that opens into the rear of the card. A U-shaped insulative block (80) is mounted on the card, with the opposite arms of the block lying at opposite sides of the board slot. Sheet metal contacts are mounted on the block and project into the slot in the circuit board, with each contact having a vertically-extending plug-engaging part (120) lying in the circuit board slot. The IC card includes a housing with a rear end cap (140) having a largely cylindrical passage (142A, 142B) that guides an audio-type plug into the slot in the circuit board to engage the contacts thereat. The end cap is constructed to form a rearward extension of the card that projects rearward of a card-receiving host slot, to enable a wide plug handle to be inserted against the rear of the end cap.

  • Patent number: 5946132
Abstract: A telescopic sight which can be used for either nighttime or daytime operation and is particularly adaptable for use on weapons ranging from rifles to anti-tank weapons.A first embodiment includes a single objective and two parallel light paths, one for day viewing and one for night viewing. The objective forms the beginning of the night path. Separating mirrors transmit light from the objective along the night path and reflects light from the objective to the day path. The night path includes an image intensifier assembly. A mirror at the end of the night path reflects the light from the image intensifier assembly to a beamsplitter/combiner on the day path. The beamsplitter/combiner transmits the light from the day path and reflects the light from the night path along the same path to an ocular assembly for viewing.A second embodiment of the telescopic sight is similar to the first embodiment but contains two objective lens assemblies for collecting light, one for the night path and one for the day path.

  • Patent number: 5943322
Abstract: Personal communications in a code division multiple access system operated without a base is provided with simultaneous transmission of a communications channel and a control channel, each spread by different PN codes. The PN code facilitates restricting communications on the network to a particular conversation mode and between identified radios. Transmissions are performed in a time division duplex manner in 62.5 milliseconds slots. One of the radios initiates transmission and maintains power control and time synchronization normally done by a base station. A network control station can voluntarily or by command transfer control of the network to any of the other radios on the network. Colliding transmissions from more than one radio require the radios to retry transmitting until one of the radios transmits in an earlier time slot.

  • Patent number: 5937381
Abstract: A system and a method is disclosed for verifying a voice of a user conducting a telephone transaction. The system and method includes a mechanism for prompting the user to speak in a limited vocabulary. A feature extractor converts the limited vocabulary into a plurality of speech frames. A pre-processor is coupled to the feature extractor for processing the plurality of speech frames to produce a plurality of processed frames. The processing includes frame selection, which eliminates each of the plurality of speech frames having an absence of words. A Viterbi decoder is also coupled to said feature extractor for assigning a frame label to each of the plurality of speech frames to produce a plurality of frame labels. The processed frames and frame labels are then combined to produce a voice model, which includes each of the plurality of frame labels that correspond to the number of plurality of processed frames.

  • Patent number: 5932945
Abstract: A motor-and-pump assembly includes armature shaft of the electric motor which is retained in the pump housing by way of a main bearing and an auxiliary bearing. The objective is to align the motor housing centrically to the axis of the armature and, in addition, to achieve a reliable attachment of the motor housing to the pump housing. Therefore, the housing of the electric motor has a bowl-shaped design, and the rim of the motor housing is inserted into a concentrically circumferential groove in a flange surface on the pump housing. The diameter of the inner wall of the groove corresponds to the inside diameter of the motor housing. Thus, the inside wall of the motor housing abuts on the inner rim of the groove. The motor housing is thereby aligned centrically. The motor housing can simply be fastened to the pump housing by a clamping ring which is also inserted into the groove.

  • Patent number: 5927426
Abstract: A traction control system for a four wheel drive vehicle including generating a first value corresponding to an average rotational speed of front wheels, generating a second value corresponding to an average of a rotational speed of rear wheels, comparing the first and second values, and generating a first signal corresponding to a difference between the first and second values, are provided. The first signal is used for transferring torque to the secondary axle if the rear wheels are rotating faster than the front wheels. The system also generates a second signal corresponding to a difference in speed between a first axle shaft and a second axle shaft of the front axle. The second signal is used for transferring torque to the other of the front axle shafts if the one of the secondary axle shafts is rotating faster than the other of the front axle shafts.
